How To Install WordPress Using Bluehost?

This question has been brought to me a few times. So I want to go through step-by-step instructions on setting up WordPress on your domain using Bluehost.

Step One: Assign Your Domain to Your cPanel

First of all, if you have a domain name registered at a different registrar you will need to assign a domain to your cPanel account. The way you would do that is click on the Domain Manager tab.

Now click on Assign Domain To cPanel.

Next you will enter your domain name. You do not have to enter http://. You can see that I have entered a domain name here highlighted in yellow.

Next you need to change your nameservers. You can do this by going to your domain registrar. (like Godaddy) Set your nameservers to your bluehost nameservers. You will see them here highlighted in red.

Here is a hint to make things go a little smoother. Before you assign your domain to your cpanel go to your registrar first and change the nameservers. If you are not sure of what they are, then enter you domain get the nameservers, then go to your registrar at this time and change them. Afterwards refresh your domain manager window and enter your domain again.

Now you need to scroll down and go to step 3. Make sure you mark the Addon Button.

Now you need to complete step 4. I always use the default here. The system will create a directory, and in my opinion that is the best one to use and now just click Add Domain.

Step Two: Setting Up WordPress

After you have your domain assign your page will look like this.

Before you can go on to your next step you might have to wait a few minutes as you see in the summary. Anyway, click on the cPanel and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Here you will see two “WordPress” icons. You can click on either one. They both take you to the same page. After you click on “WordPress”, click “Install”.

This is how my page looks when I click on “WordPress”, but yours may look a little different. I need to upgrade WordPress to newer versions on a few of my sites. (Which most of them are under construction, anyway)

After you click “Install” You will need to tell Bluehost which version of WordPress you would like to install. I always use the default.

Next you will have to choose the domain. Just click the down arrow and choose which domain you want to install WordPress on.

You don’t have to do anything for step 2.

As far as step 3, you can deselect the plugins and themes if you are not going to use them, but you may want to try them out.

Just check the box for step 4 after you have read the “Terms and Conditions.” Now click install.

Make sure you keep this information in a secure place. Now you are ready to start using WordPress. Type in your domain and see what your website looks like now. It should look like this:

If it does you have done everything correctly and Congratulations.

Now, you need to play around with some themes and plugins. It is amazing what you can do with WordPress.
