Keep Learning, No Matter What!

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Formal education took up a big chunk of our early lives, didn’t it? Well, keep learning anyway. Pre-school, elementary school, middle school, high school, undergraduate studies and then possibly postgraduate studies can seem like an eternity.

Before you know it, you’re 30 years old with student loan debt large enough to buy a beach home in Miami.

In addition to that, there are debates as to whether formal education is required to become wealthy. With examples of self-made billionaires who did not complete college such as Bill Gates, Michael Dell and Mark Zuckerberg, there is room to make that argument.

However, the key point that is overlooked is that nobody can achieve a high level of success without education.

Let’s look at the definition of educate:

  1. To develop the innate capacities of, especially by schooling or instruction.
  2. To provide with knowledge or training in a particular area or for a particular purpose.
  3. To provide with information; inform.
  4. To bring to an understanding or acceptance.
  5. To stimulate or develop the mental or moral growth of.
  6. To develop or refine (one’s taste or appreciation, for example).

Reading the above definitions may shed some light on why I believe education is necessary to be successful. Whether formal education or self-education, the importance is there.

Developing your innate capacities is a task that is critical to your ongoing personal development. Obtaining knowledge or training in your chosen field is also important to attaining and maintaining success in that field.

Living in the Information Age, the importance of continually accessing quality information that propels you towards your goals is paramount.

My favorite definition from above is to stimulate or develop the mental growth. That is an incredibly powerful statement. Knowing the importance of developing the millionaire mind, I recognize that the stimulation of mental growth can do nothing but accelerate one’s growth process. Changing (or otherwise stimulating) an individual’s thoughts can literally change the direction of their life.

Education is not a process that is confined to the walls of an educational institution. You can learn from mentors, peers, or through experience. You can learn through the voracious reading of books, magazines, or Internet sources.

The big mistake I see a lot of people make is believing their educational process ends when they receive their diploma or degree. The mind is the most powerful, unique asset available to mankind. It is what separates us from every other living creature on the planet.

The moment you stop developing your mind, educating yourself or building your mental faculties is the moment you become stagnant.

So, I implore you – keep learning at all times. Never stop wanting to improve. You cannot achieve perfection, but you can pursue it. You now are in possession of yet another millionaire secret. Take advantage of it and keep learning. See you at the top!
