I like David Wood posted about “Resentment”:
“Never let resentment, or hatred cloud your vision of what you want, and where you are going in your future.
Work on the resentment, the hatred, the pain inside—and when it is GONE…

Because the lens of resentment is a poor mirror of reality, and will cover up what you ACTUALLY, really (deep, deep down) want inside your heart…

You are the only one in this world.
Remember, it is always difficult to make any major changes in your life, especially if you are trying to make changes to the person who you are. A number of aspects to this. Whether it is making a healthy adjustment to your diet, or striving to interact better with those around you. The variety of ways in which you can improve yourself is nearly endless. After you develop your plan and start implementing some of your ideas, your self-esteem will increase, as will the respect you receive from others, once they discern the positive changes in you.
Take your energy and time and focus them on things that are aligned with your values. Changes to your life, in the personal or professional spheres, will be easier to make permanent when they reflect your ideals.
