The need to remain consistent with how we define ourselves is the strongest force in the Human personality according to Tony Robbins.

Do you agree with that statement?  Or do you think that some other force should be identified as the strongest force in the Human personality?

With all of the change to which we are presented in our lives, is this need in fact the strongest?  Others have promoted our recognition need, or our Love need or need for Power.

How we define ourselves to ourselves consciously, may not be the same as how our unconcious is causing us to define ourselves.  Some combination of the two brings us to agree or disagree about actions, places, people, ideas, etc.  “I’m not the kind of person who__________” or “That’s just not who I am…”.  Human personality is complex.

How much of a stumbling block is this force in our attempts to effect positive change in ourselves?  If there is this unconscious component to Human personality that keeps us from successful change, or to from meeting change successfully, then we need to address it.

Here is Tony Robbins talking about the strongest force in the Human personality.

I think that most of us accept that there is an unconscious aspect to Human personality.

That being the case, and combined with the desire to improve ourselves that many of us have, we need the mental tools to operate on the unconscious part of the Human personality.

Fortunately such tools exist and are in use by people who are successfully making changes to their internal landscapes.  They are taking charge of how they approach life, its challenges, and obstacles.  In their view and experience, the Human personality is a sort of machine or computer that responds to different input and different programming.  After all, it operates as it does right now based on the input and programming that it has received up to now.

Talking about Human personality this way may make you uncomfortable.  Since it offers the possibility of change that is under your control, you unconscious is going to get concerned.  You’ll experience that concern as rejection of the idea, or outright hate for the concept, depending on how entrenched your unconscious programming is.

You’re feeling something right now.  What is it?  What does the particular combination of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and programming that is your Human personality say about working on change?
