Thinking Together

Why Do We Limit Our Minds?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

(San Jose, California)-May the write say again that we are not having a written lecture, this is not propaganda. But rather you the viewers and the writer is taking a journey together, investigating together and nourishing each other together, not physically but inwardly intellectually, nonverbally and psychologically extensively into the psychological field of our day to day activities. Lectures are meant to convey or give instructions, information’s and guidance. So this is not a lecture. There has been a great many description and investigations up to a certain point about the psyche.

So if one may remind you that we are going together as two friends take a long journey into the area of the whole psychological states. May we go to the very end of it and not stop because you may like or dislike. One must take the journey to the very end of things inwardly psychologically and this journey must be done together! We must do this as two friends who is concerned with the way of life, to find out for ourselves without any authorities, mentors or gurus and teachers of life with all their non sense. So we may find out a way of life that’s an art that will bring about in human beings a great deal of quietude, affection and the art of life.

Please bare this in mind all the time that we are taking an extensive journey together, always together, he is not writing for his own pleasure! But as two friends exploring hesitantly without any bias, prejudice, conclusions rather skeptically, doubting, questioning, observing objectively together because we are concerned with or own lives. This enquiry into the psyche is not selfish activity; it does not encourage or expands self centered, egotistic movement. Both religiously and educationally through out the world the egocentric activity has been emphasized. This is a common thing for every human being on this earth.

Furthermore every human being on this earth has invented his or her own gods. Hoping there by there can be some kind of security a way out of fear, praying in there own way too end there own complexities, there on pain and anxiety this is shared by all humankind. Not by you as an American, Hindu, Russian, Australian, Arab, Japanese, Englishman but shared by every human being on this earth.

You may accept my friend intellectually the logic of it. But what is logic and reason is it not merely superficial too, but when one actually in ones blood, heart, mind and whole being feels the truth of this that our consciousness is shared by all humankind. You might believe in one kind of god and savior with all the rest, but inwardly psychologically basic we are all the same. Furthermore every human being, to believe in something, shares that believing. We are humanity, this is a great truth a great something when one actually sees this and feels this with there whole mind, blood, bones and heart in there gut. Then we will look at the world in a totally different way.

To kill another is to kill oneself, to hate another is to hate oneself. As we are taking a journey together you and the writer we should enquire into what is discipline and parapsychology? Many people are concerned about parapsychology and awkwardtism, reading thoughts, awakening kundalini and all the rest the writer is sure you have heard about this stuff. The writer has been involved in all of these things from a young age; forgive me for being a little personal, so he knows a little about them all. So you see all of these things are like a bright sunny day it comes and pass over, they have no importance what so ever. What are important and most essential are not these mysterious things, which are not mysterious at-all. If one is very sensitive both physically and if one has a very quiet silent mind/brain then all the other things are possible. And what is possible can be understood and transcended. What we are to find out that which is timeless, which is beyond measure is much more important than to indulge in these childish things.

The writer thinks that we should also talk over discipline, why humankind more and more has no sense of order? Please this is not a sermon, which becomes a bore. The writer is not telling you what to do or what to think but to observe together to see things, as they are, not what you or the writer wishes. To see exactly, correctly, directly things as they are!

You know that we live in a very chaotic, contradictory and cruel world, right? This has been 40 thousand years of evolution and we have come to this chaotic state. Now when one has observed that what is order? Is there any order at-all or must humankind live perpetually in disorder? Not only externally but also inwardly. Disorder seems to be our fate? To think objectively clearly seems to be almost impossible? You see each one of us wants there own particular way and fulfillment and ambition with all the rest.

Now what is order and the relationship of that to discipline? The word discipline etymologically means a disciple who learns, a disciple is one who is learning, not conforming or repeating, not repeating slogans but constantly learning. So what do we mean by learning? When you go to the college, school, university we learn from the books, professor and teacher and memorize. That memory is necessary up to a certain point to have a vocation and job. Either one uses that memory skillfully or sloppily. So learning so far as we understand it generally is to memorize. We read a book of computer, mathematics, science, cooking, driving a fast car memorize it and from that act which becomes mechanical.

You see the writer questions is there a learning that is not mechanical and doesn’t rely on memory? The writer is asking the friend that is walking along with him taking the journey together. Please ask your self this question. What is actually learning, is it merely memory operating accumulating a great deal of information, knowledge about various subjects which have there own discipline, there own way and gradually the brain follow certain categories and groves. These grooves and categories, specializations become a means of accumulating knowledge, memory and operating from that memory.

This is what we call learning. But the writer is saying that learning also implies a constant movement, a brain that is not only burdened with specialty, mathematics, science, computers, surgery and all the rest but it must be active, alive, alert, awakened and questioning and doubting all the time. “When one can bring this process about there is never a static state.”

When we accumulate a great deal of knowledge it becomes static and repetitive, dead, weighs heavily on the brain sucking up all its energy/space. Now when learning is a movement, there fore it is never static, it is living. Can you see this friend; are you looking at it with your friend? One must understand this very carefully because each one of us the SELF/ME/EGO/PERSONA whatever name you want to give to the psyche is a bundle of memories. You may think that you are good person and very in with god but you still are bundle of memories. And to that memory we are adding all the time but the essence of it is still static/limited.

Where as “learning” not mere accumulation of knowledge but moving further away from knowledge constantly is the act of “learning”, actual living learning that’s alive? That “learning” brings it own discipline, which is order. Furthermore order is a living thing not conformity and following a pattern. This doesn’t mean that you change from day to day to day, that’s what we are all doing now going after various fads. Actual learning implies tremendous observation without motive, the moment we have motive that motive is static because that motive is born out of memory. Is my friend following all of this? If you are not you might say what the heck are you talking about?

You see we all live by motives, sexual, motives of pleasure, wanting, gratifying, achieving, illumination/enlightenment all that stuff. We live by motive and the writer is saying something either true or entirely nonsense? The root meaning of the word motive is to move, to move not in a particular direction, not self-centered egotistic desire; this is difficult the writer is aware of. As we said motive is born out of memory because I want something, which I am missing, this is one form of motive, I want to achieve fame, appear in the beastly papers, well known, power, position so everyone can say what a famous person you are-a motive.

A motive is a projection of our own memory and desire, there fore that memory is static/limited. So I ask have you understood my friend, he says go on it coming slowly what you are saying? But he asks is this possible, what you say? To live so that there is constantly learning where you reach a point where there is no learning at-all. You see the write is saying my friend what is there to learn except mathematic, science and all the rest. Technological learning apart from all of that what is there to learn? So my friend say to the writer go slowly please my brain doesn’t work as rapidly as yours. This is a form of flattery that the writer is not going for. So he says talk a little more.

May the writer stop here please, and we may continue tomorrow, will this be all right with you?
