Thinking Together

Can “LOVE” Be Cultivated?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

What should we talk about? One would like to point out that this is not an entertainment. Most of humankind are use to being entertained, sustained by somebodies else’s words, actions, mannerisms and gestures. This is not a written lecture, as it is commonly understood. Nor are we trying to tell you what to do, this is not a propaganda. Furthermore we are thinking together which is rather a difficult problem because each one of us wants to think in there own particular way. We are only interested in our own opinions.

Now as we have said before about the importance of thinking together, the capacity to think. Not about something which comes a little later but to think which is to observe what is going on outside in the world and also to be aware of all the psychological difficult travails that one has. This can bring one to discovering for oneself a relationship between the so-called individual and their activities psychologically and in the world.

Furthermore we have said that this outside world, which is society that has become so dangerous, is a result of our daily psychological activities. Perhaps past generations have added to this but we are responsible actually for all that is taking place in the world. We also pointed out that the consciousness which is the consciousness of the so called individual, what he/she thinks, what he/she feels, his/her feelings, beliefs, fears, desires, memories, sorrows, sufferings, despairs, loneliness, pleasures, his/her peculiar form of worship, enjoyments with all the rest. These are the contents of our consciousness. This consciousness is common <(if the writer may use that word) to all humankind.

Wherever you go on this marvelous earth that we are slowly destroying, there is this problem, we suffer, we go through great agony, the fear of loneliness, not being able to stand-alone. There fore we cling to our particular forms of worship, our belief gods and all the rest. This is just like everyone else in the world. As we have pointed out if we go into this very deeply, this consciousness that every one of us think that it is ours, our special little property. But it is the common property of humankind.

Now consciously deeply we are not individuals. Though all religions and families and all the rest has maintained that we are separate individuals with our peculiar tendencies, capacities, outward forms, names, with all the rest. The writer is saying that we are the rest of humankind; there fore we are humankind. We are the world and the world is we. This is not a peculiar exotic theory, something that is an ideal but an actual psychological fact. Whether you the readers/listeners like it or not it is a fact. We all suffer, we all have many problems, we all are nationalist, we all want security/endurance/continuity.

You see the illusion in our consciousness that we are separate individuals is not a fact. When one can realize that’s not as an idea or idealistic concept-something that we have to strive after, but to actually realize it with our heart/mind that it is the ground that all humankind through out the world stand!

We also pointed out that in our relationship whether it is man/woman or woman/man there is a great deal of strife, misunderstanding, contradiction and each one psychologically going there own way. Perusing ones own ambitions and all the rest. Like two parallel train tracks never meeting, perhaps sexually they meet every now and then, the writer question that too.

We also went into fear and its various forms. Whether humankind that has carried this burden of fear for millennium upon millennium can ever be free of it completely? We have gone into this very deeply step by step and it is possible, not as a theory or goal but it is possible actually to be totally free of psychological fears.

Furthermore we look at the pursuit of pleasure, which is more and more in this world outwardly, various forms of entertainment, both religious and cinematic, which includes sports. We looked at how we are becoming to be more mechanical repeating the same thing over and over again. Which is what the computer is doing, it may do it more efficiently or more rapidly and widely. And our own minds and feelings are just the same repetitive.

Now can we go into, if you the readers/listeners are committed, why humankind for a million years or more, why we have become what we are brutal, violent, contradictory, killing each other in the name of god and country also in the name of peace. Nevertheless this repetitive killing of each other has been going on although we are so called highly educated, technologically we are extraordinarily efficient but psychologically we are very very primitive.

So we are saying why is it that we don’t change, why is it that there is no “end” to all this terrible individualistic competitive drive day in and day out. All of this is destroying the world. So can we talk about this together the nature of what we consider “love”? This has been a question that has existed among the ancient Egyptians, Hindus and recently in the Christian and Islamic concept they all have preached/talked about “loving” your neighbor. This has been asserted religiously in all the countries. Apparently we have never come to realize what it really is, actually not just the word “LOVE” but also all of its beauty and essence/perfume that is forever changing/moving.

Furthermore we talk a great deal about it, books are written, but we have created a god or gods and we so call “love” that god or gods. We have no clue of the nature of this beauty “love”. We have no way at all come close or near to this beauty to smell its perfume because if we have we would not be acting so violent and self-centered the way we do. The write thinks that we should go into this question very deeply?

Is it mere sensory responses, sexual pleasures? Please as we said this is not the writer asserting any point of view, but we are examining, please may the writer repeat over again together! We are enquiring into the nature of what one calls “LOVE”? So what is “love”? How does “love” come? What takes place in a mind that touches “love”? One must ask them selves is it mere sensory, sexual responses? Which is more and more in the western world and creeping into the eastern world being turned into pleasure. Is “love” pleasure a form of entertainment? A thing that demands some kind of sensory fulfillments? Is it desire, we went into the question of desire very carefully. How it arises and the demand for its fulfillment.

Furthermore we looked how when there is no fulfillment frustration comes and all the neurotic activities of an unfulfilled desire. We went into all of that in previous accounts, if you haven’t read the previous accounts, the writer hope you want mind if we don’t go into it again? Now is “love” desire, if it is then all the complication and frustrations, fulfillments with all the conflicts that arise in desire is “love”? So is “love” conflict? If the writer may repeat this again you the readers/listeners are asking these questions not the writer? The writer is merely pointing out what you yourself is examining. Not merely verbally or intellectually as a thing that is passing by, but actually in daily life.

Now is “love” a movement that has continuity in pleasure and desire? You are asking this questions? Why is it that pleasure has become so extraordinary important in the world? The whole entertainment industry. All the sports and if you forgive the writer the religious entertainments which is considered sacred. These are the various forms of pleasure, so one is asking is “love” an endless movement of pleasure? Is “love” attachment? Attachment to a belief, concept and knowledge, to a person or symbol? In attachment there is fear and the agony of being alone. Can one see the consequences of attachment, clinging to the flag, country everyone in the world is doing that. Separative symbolic flags.

Nevertheless everybody has there own flag, which we are willing to kill each other! And we say it is a principle, a country that becomes aggressive must be pushed back in it place. So we are willing to kill each other this has been an old repetition from the most ancient of days. All the religions the ancient ones and the most recent ones of 2000 years have always said “love” and do not kill.

You see our pleasure over comes this eddied. Now if one is serious at all about the relationship with another, man and woman, relationship with the rest of humankind whether they are yellow, white, black or blue no matter the color. In that relationship why is there so much conflict? Is it in that relationship we seek security and safety? This search for security and fulfillment in that relationship is that “love”? So please lets enquire together into this question very deeply? Now if all that is not “love”, the attachments, pursuit for pleasure, the desire to fulfill, the desire and fear of being alone lonely? If all of this is not “love” like jealousy, hatred, arrogance and pride can it “END”?
