Are you Teachable?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

I want to ask you a question. Do you consider yourself an open person? Do you listen to other people’s perspectives? Are you willing to be coached, to learn new things, to change your routine if it means it would serve you better?

In my post yesterday I asked: Who Do You Listen To?

In that video we discussed that you can’t always listen to the successful people who write the books because they don’t always share their “secrets” and most often these books are written by Ghost Writers.

You can’t always listen to the guru’s either, because they often are not even applying the information that they are teaching. Some of my readers also made some valuable comments in yesterday’s post and pointed out that even if the Guru’s DO know what they are talking about, often times they are greedy and don’t actually share all the “secrets” that they know. They fear competition. Read more on Who you should listen to here.

Today is the second video in my Law of Attraction series on How to be do or have anything you want or desire! I am asking the question: Are you teachable?

Human beings have something which in this video I refer to as an “already always listening”. In spiritual texts this is often called “The Ego”. Another name for this is our conscious or surface mind.

Our conscious mind is constantly chattering to us. It analyses, judges and assesses information. This voice “in our heads” (you know the one that never shuts up??) is constantly deciphering whether things are “Right or Wrong”, “Good or Bad”, “True or False” etc.

When we listen through this voice we are actually listening through a filter. Picture wearing sunglasses inside a dark room. It’s pretty hard to see isn’t it? Well that’s what our “Already always listening” is.

How we can widen our perception is by ensuring that we are open, we are coachable and we are teachable before we take in new, potentially radical information.

There are two factors in particular we can use to figure out how teachable we are.

The first is: What’s your willingness to learn?

A good way of finding out what your willingness to learn is by asking: What are you willing to give up? Would you give up your favourite tv show to learn the things you need to learn for your business, your relationship, learning law of attraction, or a new skill?
Would you give up games, hobbies, time or money?

The second factor is: What’s your willingness to accept change?

So many people are too busy trying to defend their belief systems (which are often very limiting and non-serving) to actually listen.
You really want to ask yourself: if this works for that person, and for many other people, is it possible that it could work for me?

Now the answer may be that it doesn’t work for you. Perhaps it doesn’t serve you and your life. But do yourself a favour and “try it on” as a possibility for yourself. Do not write it off by making other people wrong. Remember: Who do you listen to?

“If you want things in your life to change, you’re going to have to change things in your life”.

Are you willing to change your routine in order to have the things in your life you’ve always wanted?

Using these two factors, you can now rate your teachability index on a scale of 1 to 10. For some of you it’s going to be a 10, some of you may be 5, some of you may even be 0 and you may reject everything I’m saying!

That’s fine. Wherever you are at is perfect. The key is to acknowledge it and take appropriate action. If you are below a 5 I would not advise you continue watching this video or this series. Learning about Law of Attraction in my opinion requires a teachability index of at least 7, ideally between 8-10. Anything below that and you honestly won’t get any value from the concepts, unless you have grown up in an environment where this knowledge was already a given.

However, teachability index is always changing. You may be a 5 or a 10 now but any moment that could change. I sometimes find myself being a 10, and then I learn and find myself in “information overload” and I become a 0! That’s fine too. Acknowledge where you’re at, and when you pass over that feeling of being overwhelmed and feel like you can absorb more, then come back to the information you want to learn.

I hope this got you thinking about how teachable you are in various areas of your life.

Remember this:

What some people call “Insanity” is doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result.

If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you will continue to get what you’ve always got! Don’t sit on your couch doing the same routine and expect that one day magically things in your life will change.

Taking PROACTIVE actions consistently is ONE thing, just taking action which doesn’t lead to anything is another conversation entirely. Do not get these 2 things confused. With any type of learning, it takes commitment, focus and consistent action.

Tomorrow we will be discussing the third basic concept which asks the question: How much of manifesting is THOUGHTS/MINDSET vs. THE HOW/Skills/Strategies etc. How much planning, learning, and skills do you have to know before you can actually take an action towards your goals?

All of that tomorrow! Keep updated by entering your email here.
