Why do I like Fantasy Football?

When you are married, have several businesses and 5 young kids, you really don’t have a lot of spare time on your hands.  But out of the little time I do have available, I would say my favorite hobby is Fantasy Football.

I don’t know why, but I love playing Fantasy Football.

I have been playing Fantasy Football off and on for the past several years.  I think it has something to do with the strategy and competition.  I have played in several Fantasy Football leagues with different formats and I would have to say my favorite format is a Season Long Points Per Reception (PPR) league.  Out of all the formats I have played on, I like Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football the Best.  It is very user friendly and has some really nice features on it.

When did I Start Playing Fantasy Football?

The first time I got seriously involved with Fantasy Football was back in 2007.  That year I went undefeated throughout the whole season, only to lose the championship.  Looking back, it was pretty funny how I did so well.  I just happen to draft Tom Brady and Randy Moss that year.  I also had Brian Westbrook when he was good along with Joseph Addai.  If memory serves me correct, I also had Jason Witten as Tight End.  Those are the main players I remember.

A Little Tip for Nailing the Fantasy Football Draft

Before the Fantasy Football draft, my dad ended up giving me an ESPN Fantasy Football cheat sheet that I used in my draft.  So if you are new to Fantasy Football, I would definitely recommend cheat sheets.  That gave me a huge advantage.  And since I have been playing, there is one thing I have noticed that makes a huge difference in a guys season.  IF he can nail the draft, he can have a great year.  If he bombs his draft or really doesn’t look for value in later rounds, it can be really hard to make it through the season with an average roster.

Another thing I learned that year was to WATCH OUT for the WEATHER come Playoff time.  Although my roster had the better players than the guy who beat me, most of his games were in domes during WEEK 16.  It just so happen that New England was playing in a flipping Blizzard that week and Tom Brady and Randy Moss completely bombed. (And no, I don’t mean Moss caught a bomb from Brady… they didn’t do ANYTHING!)

And Yes… I have Won a Fantasy Football Championship!

Apart from my Fantasy Football season that ended in defeat in the championship, I actually won my league last year and have done well in several other leagues.  I even played in a Fantasy Football money league for a short amount of time.  It was a pretty fun format.  It allowed you to play head to head or in a pool of players.  You could pick a new roster weekly and I did really well with that.  I actually just used a little bit of spending money on the league and got a 200% return.  I didn’t do anything crazy like take a mortgage out on my house… LOL  BUT I did win several games and made some money while doing it.
