If you like surprises and updates to your networking experience, then Facebook has been offering a lot of it recently, with tweaks being added to Facebook Search and Timeline, to further improve user experience along with new changes on its m.facebook.com mobile platform. The latest round of tweaks is geared to the more than 600 million Facebook users who access the platform via smartphones, as opposed to the more traditional desktop user. One of the main trends in the coming years in online browsing is the increased application of handheld devices to browse the internet. The Facebook mobile app is the primary mode through which many smartphone users access the massive network, so the latest upgrades have been done to bring this feature on the same level with the desktop browsers that most users employ to access Facebook.
Changes On The m.facebook.com Mobile Platform
Another of the major developments has been a revamping of its mobile website, m.facebook.com, along with the launch of new official apps for Android and Apple smartphones. Most mobile users still access Facebook via the mobile website instead of Facebook mobile apps. As more users move to the use of smartphones, this trend might be expected to shift in the future to a more apps-based experience.
The Facebook Mobile Apps Tweak
So what are some of the major new changes to your Facebook experience? You will for instance take note of the “Share” feature in your friends’ posts, that will allow you to share their posts to your network. Instead of the Message Utility which functions more like an email, Facebook mobile apps now incorporate a Chat feature. By simply tapping a human silhouette icon, it is possible to activate the chat function. This silhouette is located in the upper right corner of the app. You will then see a list of your friends who are available for chat at that particular time. Those who are available on phones will be shown as a phone icon while those on their desktops are marked with green dots. The “Favourites” feature allows you to organize the list of friends you chat with the most for ease of access.
If you share a large amount of photos on the internet, you can now use two sets of options. For example, you can upload multiple photos by tapping them together. There is also the option of configuring the app to upload every image that you have captured. This feature is called Photo Sync and you will find it in your timeline at the Photos icon. Tap the “Synced” button and let the app walk you through the configuration process. Other features include mobile tagging of your friends, privacy settings for your status updates so as to limit those who see them and the addition of the Facebook gifts feature to the mobile apps version. The ingenious feature allows you to select gifts for your Facebook friends then make payments after your friends have selected a preferred delivery destination. Lastly there is a rich menu of emoticons that you can now choose from to add some lightheartedness to your Facebook messages.
