Tell Your Real Story- The World Is Waiting to Hear it

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Something that I’m always learning in Empower network is that you need to be honest with people.  You need to be real and tell everyone exactly where you’re coming from.  You need to tell them the struggles and the successes that you are having everyday in your life and business or they’ll never be able to connect with you on a deeper level.  No matter how painful it is, make sure you’re honest about where you are coming from and how things are going in your life.  Many people say you can’t get people to join you if you’re not making money or don’t have credibility.  That’s not true at all.  Everyone starts with no credibility so don’t let that become an excuse.

Some people will say “fake it til you make it.”  Let me tell you, that doesn’t work either. Most people have a little BS meter and can sense whether you’re lying or not. If they notice you lying, they will leave and never come back. That’s the honest truth. People would much rather hear the truth about where you’re at than some fabricated story about how much success you’re supposedly having. They will be able to relate to the struggle more, and that will break down the walls that they put up to protect themselves.

When you’re honest with people, whether you’re struggling or not, they will be able to connect with you way more than they would connect with someone making millions of dollars.  People love the rags to riches stories.  They love hearing that someone struggled like them and that they were able to break through the adversity.  You’re job is to get them to say “if they can do it, I can do it.”  The more you act all high and mighty, the less they will be able to connect with you.  There’s so much deception and lies out there, people will love you for being honest.

I want to tell you a story to illustrate this point.  Think about American Idol, or the X factor, or America’s Got Talent.  All extremely popular shows.  Why?  Because people love seeing the stories.  People love seeing other people break through.  They love seeing how someone was struggling and now they’re on the top of the world.  People love seeing other peoples’ dreams come true.

Everyone has big goals and aspirations for their life.  Before life beats us all down and stomps on our dreams, we all want to recognized.  We all want to make a difference in the world, to be remembered, to make our mark.  And we love seeing other people follow their dreams and find success.  It’s probably the best kind of inspiration out there.   I’ve literally watched a lot of these shows and shed a tear seeing how much some people go through and still are able to break through.   Here’s an example, try not to tear up when seeing this rags to riches story:
It touches our heart to see someone put everything on the line and come out on top.  Because you know all the things you’ve been through and all the obstacles you’ve faced, and even if you’re not where you need to be yet, you still have that desire to live your dream life.  It shows the potential of human beings to see people literally go through hell and still get to the top.  Believe in yourself.  If you do, it will happen for you as well.  It doesn’t matter what you’re going through, you can have a break through.  You can live your dream life.  You can do anything that you put your mind to.

Believe and take action.  Tell your story.  Don’t wait.  People will love you for it.  You have so much value.  You have the potential to change millions of peoples’ lives….you’ve just got to decide that you’re going to do it.  Step into your power.  Be honest, be real….and people will love you.

To Your Success,

Adam Boyd
