4 Steps To Growth

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

If you are reading this post, you should have read my other posts prior to this one. The articles are ” Who Should You Listen To “, ” Are You Teachable ” and “ What Is The Training Balance Scale “. At this point you should have read these articles before proceeding to this one. If not DO NOT READ THIS YET.

There are Four steps to growth after the Training Balance Scale

“Unconscious Incompetence”
“Conscious Incompetence”
“Conscious Competence”
“Unconscious Competence”

How do you determine the difference between all of them? Let me explain One by One, the first one is “Unconscious Incompetence”, which means you don’t know what you don’t know. The next one is “Conscious Incompetence”, which means you know that you don’t know. Next is “Conscious Competence”, which means that you have to think about what you learned in order to apply it. The last one is “Unconscious Competence”, which means you don’t have to think about what you learned and you do it without realizing it. So let me break this down as an example, as this will be the only way to understand it.

Lets say you want to learn how to get to a destination by car. You are now at the first step “Unconscious Incompetence”, you don’t know how to get the destination. Automatically you go to step two “Conscious Incompetence”, now you know that you don’t know how to get to your destination. This can get confusing, that’s why I’m using this example here. Step 1 and Step 2 usually happen instantaneously because right after you discover you don’t know how to get to your destination you go to step 2.

Now that you realize you don’t know how to get to your destination, you are then taught how to get there. At this point you become Step 3, “Conscious Incompetence”, you know how to get there at this point but you have to think about how to get there. You leave your current location, then you say in your head, make a right at the next light then make a left after 2 lights and so on. You have to think about what you learned to apply it. Now after repetition going to the same destination you will eventually get to step 4, “Unconscious Competence”. At this point because of constant repetition you should be able to get to your destination without thinking about it.

Have you ever drove home then ask yourself how did I get here? That’s because you are now “Conscious Competent”, you are getting to your destination without thinking about it, just like auto pilot. So how is this relevant to business? Good Question.

First, Who do you listen to? People that have what you want!

Second, What is your teachability index? Is it a 10 willingness to learn, 10 willingness to accept change!

Third, The training balance scale? Are you thoughts, feelings and goals make you feel good? Are you NOT worried about the HOW!! Don’t focus on the HOW, but your Dreams, Goals and Desires!!

Forth, the 4 Steps, “Unconscious Competence”, you don’t know what you don’t know. “Conscious Incompetence”, you know what you don’t know. “Conscious Competence”, you know how and need to think it through to apply what you learned. “Unconscious Competence”, you do it without even thinking about it, like auto pilot.

Last, master the 4 steps. If you do this in your business everything else is irrelevant. If you Master the basics, you will become unstoppable and you will achieve your goals and desires. All successful people know the basics and as a matter of fact, they are a MASTER AT THE BASICS. Did you ever wonder why, what ever they touch they are successful? These are the methods they use to become successful that they don’t want you to know about.

I hope this post has helped you understand the Basics. If you enjoyed this information go ahead and share this with the WORLD!!
