Freak Weather Ice Tsunami in Canada
Last week on Monday the 13th May 2013 strong Arctic winds blowing south across Duphin Lake in Manitoba, Canada caused the ice to break up and flow towards Ochre Beach.
This is one of those weather events that is very rare, but it is not something local residents wished they had witnessed.
The winds pushed so much ice into the beach area that it produced a 3 meter high Ice Tsunami in Canada which carried on flowing over the land, and ploughed into many homes destroying some of them.
Residents had to run for their lives when this Ice Tsunami in Canada hit, but luckily no one was injured in this freak of nature.
Although the movement of the ice flow was nowhere near as fast as an ocean one it was still extremely frightening for residents.
One resident, Ms Billows, only realized what was happening when the ice sheet started coming through her living room window.

Reports from the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) say that the total length of this Ice Tsunami in Canada was about 10 miles long, with wind speeds reaching 40 miles per hour.
A state of emergency was authorized in the local area although once the winds died down the main threat was over and it was time for the local authorities and residents to clean up.
Although this Ice Tsunami in Canada phenomena has happened before in other areas, scientists say that this is the first time it has been caught on camera, and it will allow them to research it in more detail.
Although climate change has seen some weird weather events in North America in recent years this is thought to be just one of those things that happens now and again.
Things like this do bring climate change back into the news again, and scientists can only be pleased about that.
