Ways to Memorize Things

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

There are a couple of ways to memorize things; writing down what we want to remember it’s not one the best ways to remember things but it is certainly a very popular way to do so.

The best ways to memorize things and maintain a healthy memory is by living healthy. It’s proven that someone who lives an active and healthy life will have a healthier brain than someone who doesn’t live the same way.

A healthy lifestyle will help you have a healthy brain and this means a healthy memory as well.

Evaluating the way you live will help you realize if you’re living a healthy life or not. As you should know one of the most important ways to memorize things is by living a healthy life.

But of course there is couple more ways to memorize things which are really important if you want to possess a healthy memory.

Most of us take our memory for granted and because of this most of us have a greater chance to become mentally ill as we get old.

The best ways to memorize things are by using:

Imagination & Association

These are the two principles that ensure perfect memory. These are simple foundations that most of us are actively discouraged to use. Everybody has imaginative abilities; imagination is a great tool we have to memorize better.

When we’re kids we tend to have a lot of imagination, do you think that as we get older we lose imagination?

Our imagination never goes away, it will always be there. What happens is that we tend to forget about it, meaning we stop using it.

When we’re kids we don’t worry about anything, our minds are as clear as water. We can say there is a lot of room for our imagination to run through our minds when we’re kids.

So the answer to the question above is NO, we do not lose imagination we just forget is there.

Our imagination can certainly help us remember anything and it can work pretty well if you use it with association.

Associating a piece of information with an image from our imagination it will help you recall the information easier.

For example by associating numbers with words or shapes with numbers it will help you remember a name or a phone number easier.
If you want to remember anything, association is a great way to do so. All you have to do is to associate what you need to remember with some known or fixed item.

Example:

Grab a pen and a piece of paper→

Try remembering the words down below, read it 3 times then look away and write them down.

1- candle
2- eyes
3- triangle
4- dog
5- star
6- cube
7- heaven

Now how many did you get correctly?

Well if you had difficulties remembering all of them then you should pay more attention. Do you notice anything special about the numbers next to the words?

Try to relate the words with the numbers, for example you can relate number 1 with a candle, the number 2 with eyes we all know we have two, the number 3 with a triangle because it has 3 sides…… can you figure out the rest? Use your imagination.
You see here, these are the best ways to memorize things by association and imagination. This is a great technique to help us remember better.
