You can protect the environment, as well as saving on energy costs, by using green energy at home. Buying an electric car isn’t the only way to reap these rewards! Read on for tips on how to make your house energy-efficient.

If you’re a business owner, then you’ll be aware of your electrical cost. Consider solar panels in your office or place of business, and when you do your marketing to customers, make sure you mention that you are using green energy. Many people prefer to support businesses that have gone green and are committed to helping the environment. Eventually, the additional business you’ve garnered will offset the cost of solar panels, and you’ll also gain the benefit of decreased utility bills.

Make sure that you check your oven’s seal regularly, as the heat that escapes when you turn on your oven could be costing you lots of money. If you have a seal broken in your oven then you could be consuming a lot more energy, up to 50%, so ensure that you don’t have a seal broken by checking your oven from time to time.

Wear natural fabrics instead of running your air conditioner during summer months. Natural fibers like cotton can absorb moisture from your skin, helping you feel cooler. Also, choose lighter colors. Darker colors absorb heat, which makes you feel warmer, meaning you’ll set your thermostat lower.

Try receiving as much messaging as you can via email. In short, try to be paperless all the time. This helps to lower the energy costs of businesses as they communicate, and you can save energy as well. That helps the environment for everybody.

Consider using a solar oven to bake with. You can make one from an old window, cardboard box, and tin foil. The oven can heat up to well over 300 degrees using no electricity!

If you would like to reduce the cost of your hot water, use solar energy. Solar hot-water systems can reduce your energy bills significantly. Research the benefits of an indirect versus direct circulation system. Indirect systems are the best option for those who have frozen pipes during the winter.

Consider solar water heaters to make your home more energy efficient. This works best in areas where the temperature doesn’t drop below freezing. Solar energy systems circulate water through solar heaters and then pump it into the house. However, you should still have a traditional water heater as backup for times when the sun won’t come out or if you’re going to be using a lot of hot water.

Don’t leave appliances that aren’t in use, on. When you leave an area take the time to turn off lights, televisions, stereos, computers, and other electrical items you are not going to be using. Use power strips for home electronics. As well, turn this off when you’re not using your electronics. Products in standby mode still waste power.

Complete a log of all your appliances and their wattage needs before consulting with a solar panel professional. Quotes are easier to build when all the applicable information is available. Your solar professional will be glad you took the time to do so and can offer a quicker estimate.

If you can, replace your windows for those that are energy-efficient. There are several benefits in using these windows, including a decrease in energy bills and less condensation on the windows.

Electric heaters are an energy hog and should be avoided as much as possible in the winter. They are not environmentally friendly. Instead, invest in some warm clothing and slippers for family members and use a fireplace or pellet stove to heat living areas. In addition, this is beneficial to your health, as cooler air keeps your airways from getting too dry, allowing you to breathe easier while sleeping.

You can cut your energy usage by taking the battery out of your laptop and running from the AC outlet only, if you are stationary. Its battery continues to draw energy, even when it’s full, so removing it while your computer is still plugged in can conserve some kilowatts and prolong the life of the battery.

Changing the filter in your furnace, using energy efficient light bulbs, and installing a programmable thermostat are easy ways to conserve energy in your home. Set forth a good example for the members of your family, and this will teach others to go green as well. Keep these tips in mind and use them often.
