It’s simple to reduce the amount of energy your home is using, or make it more green. You will see improvements to both your finances and your energy use once you make just a few changes. Get a few ideas about how you can do this by checking out the tips in this article.

Solar panels are an easy addition to your home that helps you and your family go green. However, you must consider a few issues before getting started. Think about how much sun your house typically gets. If your house is usually in the shade, solar panels will provide limited additional power.

Rainwater can be effectively used in some household items, for example the toilet. This will reduce your water bill significantly and also protect the planet. To collect large amounts of water, install rain barrels to collect water from your gutters. If you only need small amounts of water, just set out jars or buckets to collect water during a rainstorm.

Try switching your old windows for more energy-efficient ones. New windows provide a variety of benefits, including reduced energy bills, less noise pollution from outside, less carbon dioxide in your home, and less window condensation.

60 Degrees

When you leave your home or go to bed, set the thermostat at 60 degrees. 60 degrees is the target temperature at which your heater will be consuming the least energy. This helps greatly reduce your energy consumption and saves you money.

A good energy product is an on demand water heater. Old fashioned heaters run constantly, heating the water even when not needed, therefore wasting energy. On-demand heaters only heat water when necessary, which greatly reduces energy costs.

Try cutting energy usage in your business, as well as your home. Look into solar panels for your business and use it as a marketing strategy when attracting customers. Many people choose to support businesses that use green technology to help our environment. In time, the extra business you attract and the energy savings on your bills will add up to more than the initial investment.

Lighter Colors

A simple, yet effective way to help save on your electricity bills is to use lighter colors on your walls. Dark walls may cause you to use more electricity to brighten the space. Choosing lighter colors for your walls not only saves you money on energy costs, but it also makes your home feel naturally brighter.

Dry clothes on a clothelines during the summer. The sun gives your clothes a great smell. Sun-drying clothes gives them a fresh smell. Also, your utility bills will be greatly decreased.

Buy a monitor for to see where you use most of your energy in the home. These devices collect data about how much electricity your home is using, and provide an estimate of the next month’s bill based on this information. Research has shown that people who know exactly what they are using in energy will scale back their overall energy usage.

A great tip to help save energy for those of you who cook a lot is to use lids on your pots and pans. You can retain heat so you can lower your stove heat setting, which will save you energy.

Storm Windows

If you want to save energy on heating and cooling costs, install storm windows and doors. This is because storm windows and doors prevent drafts, which means less cold air enters the home. When homes have windows and doors that are stormed, 45 percent less energy is used, which can decrease electric bills.

Use solar-powered lamps for outdoor lighting. These lamps are cheap and don’t require any power besides sun exposure. This will save significant energy. It will also save you money by not having to wire the outdoor lights to your home.

Use your microwave oven whenever you can instead of the stove and oven. Each time you cook in the oven or stove, you tend to use lots of energy. So when you can “nuke” your food, do so to cut down on energy usage.

Start using as many of these ideas in your own home as you can. You can reduce your bills and do something positive for the environment. Your home can be very green if you make a few changes at a time
