Congratulations; this is the very first step to become a great photographer! There is a lot of available information about photography; so much so, that it can be overwhelming and hard to know where to start. Here are a few effective, creative tips that will improve your shots as soon as today.
Don’t make your photographic techniques too complicated; simplifying your process can get you better pictures. Keeping it simple means sticking with standard settings instead of changing them every time you shoot. You can take terrific photos this way.
If you want to get rid of shadows outdoors, use your flash. Even outdoors, your picture may be too dark if you don’t use a flash.
Holding a camera may seem basic, but it can make or break your pictures. This is important to know because otherwise you’re not going to get clear, stable photos. Make sure your arms are near your body. Support the lens with the non-dominant hand.
Choose what you want to have in your photograph. A good picture should be like a small window showing a certain aspect of your subject. You should avoid showing too much when taking a photograph. To give an overview of a subject, take multiple pictures, instead of a single shot that may not have all of the details.
Learn to look at your surroundings in a new way. Use your camera to elevate items you see and use around the house. Anything from a sink to a pencil can help you experiment with composition and form. There are many ways you can make a truly unique photo. Make it a challenge to turn something from ordinary into interesting.
Go ahead and walk around your subject as you shoot to find an eye-catching angle. Whether you settle on shooting from above, below, the right or left, experiment, or take shots from each angle to decide post-shooting.
Your camera settings should fit with the type of picture you’re aiming to take. If you are taking a picture of something that is moving, set your camera accordingly. This will avoid having unwanted effects in your photos.
If you are out and see something you want to take a picture off, simply write a note to return to the spot when you have time and equipment to shoot well. You can keep up with interesting sites by always carrying a small notepad on your person to notate a spot you would like to revisit.
Fluorescent Lighting
While taking indoor photos under fluorescent lighting, make sure the camera has the appropriate white balance settings. Fluorescent lighting usually gives off bluish and greenish light, so subjects may take on a cooler tone than you intend without compensating for the lack of red tones with your camera.
If you don’t practice though, you can’t ever get better. Digital photography has inspired a whole new type of photography. Now that you don’t have film or development costs, it is much easier to take dozens of pictures, good or bad.
These tips and techniques should point you in the right direction as you strive to sharpen up your skills as a photographer. Return to this list as needed to brush up on the techniques discussed. If you are patient enough, your pictures will eventually look like art.
