If you have never owned a dog before, the process of dog training may seem to be an impossible task. There are many different ideas and theories out there, and the sheer amount of information can be overwhelming. This article will provide with you several tips to help you get started.

You should begin dog training during puppy stages if possible. Young dogs have more resilient brains and are easier to train. Teaching your dog good behavior from a young age is great way to help it grow as a pet that becomes respectful.

TIP! Any type of introduction to unfamiliar animals needs to be attempted very slowly. Think of the pet you already have at home, before considering the adoption of a new one.

When introducing your dog to another animal, do so slowly and carefully. Consider your pet at home before adopting a new one. Pets have different personalities, therefore, it is very important to pick a pet with a similar personality to your current dog.

If you do not think you can sit there with your dog for awhile, while keeping your patience, then do not try to train him. You need to have patience with your dog, or they may lose their patience, and once that happens, their focus on training may fade.

Use consistency with training by making sure all members use commands that are the same. For instance, your dog is going to get confused if you are saying “drop it” after he fetches a stick and your child tells him “let go.” Using consistent commands all the time from every person who trains the dog will make training much less confusing for the dog.

TIP! Tell your friends and guests how to behave with your dog. These reactions may actually encourage dogs to jump up on your guests or attempt to dominate them.

You can use a few tricks when crate training your dog or puppy. If your dog does not want to go into the crate but one of his favorite toys inside and close the door. As soon as they smell the tempting treat, they will want to get into the crate to enjoy it. After he goes in the crate, reward him with praise and a treat.

Pay attention to your tone when you are disciplining your dog. Dogs pick up on subtle changes in their owner’s voices. A firm but stern tone should be enough to reinforce discipline.

Never give up on your dog, no matter how exhausted you are. While it may be frustrating at times, if you don’t persevere and constantly reinforce the teachings to the dog, your efforts will be wasted. Training your dog should be as consistent as feeding or taking him or her outside.

TIP! Give challenges to your dog on a regular basis. Get him to repeat tricks you haven’t practiced in a while, to keep him sharp.

Dogs tend to chew as a reaction to feeling anxious. Give your dogs something they are allowed to chew on like a toy or treat, and put them in their kennel while you are away.

If you catch your puppy chewing on something, firmly say no, then remove the item from him. Eventually, the puppy will come to understand which items he is allowed to chew. In addition, he will learn not to chew unacceptable items even if he’s left unattended.

Do not fatten your dog by being mindful of just how many treats he gets in one day. It’s easy to overlook the treats, but the do add up, especially when you’re doing a lot of training.

TIP! Try to incorporate play into your training sessions with your dog. Try and develop a bond with your dog by playing with him, it will only encourage the dog to want to please you more during training.

Be patient when you are training your puppy, there is no doubt that accidents are going to happen. Your training will go more smoothly if you always clean up accidents right away. Odor from feces or urine can stay in your carpet which will make your dog return to it when it wants to urinate. There are a variety of products that will help you remove the odor; check with the local pet store or department store.

Try applying these tips to solve your issues. By using these tips, you will be able to train your dog
