Somebody tells you the whole thing is a scam, and you cannot quite work out whether they are being careful or have simply closed the door. Bob Veale opens on that distinction. The good skeptic asks whether it works and then goes and checks. The bad one decided in advance and calls the decision wisdom.

That argument runs underneath most of what follows. He picks apart the word try and what it quietly does to the people who use it. He takes the side of the call centre agent being screamed at over decisions she had no part in making. He explains why Google Glass unsettles him and asks whether it should be banned outright.

Then, with no warning at all, he tells you how to turn a satellite dish into a solar generator, down to the wing nuts and the epoxy putty, or points out that brute force attacks on WordPress are climbing and your username is probably still admin.

He is funny about all of it and never once smooth. If you want a blog with a single subject, look elsewhere. If you want somebody arguing with received opinion in public, start at the skeptic post and keep going.
