The “Ring Out”

It is said that only 3% of the folks that enter our business (being an entrepreneur) make-the-grade, or “make-it”.
Does that really mean that the other 97% “fail”? Some say “yes”.
Well, I disagree…
Sort of like how our government statisticians are directed to tally up unemployment figures only in reverse, I don’t believe it’s quite that simple!
Firstly, I say that any “learning experience” is never a “failure”. So that the supposed 97% don’t actually “fail” anyway. (But that’s just me)
Secondly a large number of that 97% never really got started.
Another chunk got through the initial stumbling blocks and found that it wasn’t as “easy” as they expected.
Then there’s the group that actually got through the most painful sections of the path, where the earlier group was lost.
These folks are not quitters.
These folks “remain past the pain” and find that there may be more of the same… and as it’s dubbed in Navy Seals BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/ Seals) training… they “ring out”.
Time and time again… THESE folks come so damned far… endure the worst in physical and especially mental stresses… and lose that “vision” they had when they started… and “ring out”.
As entrepreneurs, we call that “vision” our “WHY”. And in our ranks, the same damned thing happens as with the Seal BUD/S Trainees…
Folks will lose sight of that vision… They lose sight of their WHY… and “Ring Out”.
And here is the most incredibly sad part of the phenomenon…
They “Ring Out” within what I call a “slow blink” of seeing it through… and making it happen.
One more breath…
One more push…
One more grunt…
Hell, One more “I think I can” (Remember the kid’s story “The Little Train That COULD”… I can’t believe THAT got in here)…
And they would have been over-the-top and coasting downhill… They would have satisfied their “WHY”… They would have “made it”.
So the next time YOU think about “ringing out”, I want you to think about exactly what “might be” just around the next bend… over the next rise… a breath, a push, a grunt, a “think I CAN”… a “slow blink” away…
and give it that “one more”…
and I KNOW THAT YOU WILL TOTALLY LOSE SIGHT…
of “Ringing Out” that is!!!
Hey look even the most successful of us has doubts as to whether what we’re doing is actually “worth it”!
But the simple fact is that the more times your mind “perceives success”, the less doubts you’ll have!
Remember this…
BUD/S Training Ring-Out Rate = 80 to 90%
Entrepreneurs “Training” Ring-Out Rate = 97%
