Entrepreneur’s 10 Minute Morale Booster

A Bit of Blue Collar Philosophy:

“Ain’t no such thing as lawns without weeds, beauty without flaws, or progress without doubts;  Where your mind goes…”

I was sitting across from my wife at the kitchen counter this afternoon.  She looked up from a book she was reading with “worry” written all over her face.

She asked the question that many entrepreneurs and “traders” dread… “So how are we doing?” she asked.  (Translation: “Are we making any money… yet?”)

I should have known better before engaging my mouth… but in a long time relationship of honesty, you sometimes you get caught by surprise… and to “shoot from the hip”…

… I answered “Ahhh So – So”…  which was NOT quite what she wanted to hear… and as a matter of fact, neither did I!

You see, I’m usually the positive thinking,  center of good morale for my family… So a total “lack-luster” reply as such was seriously off-the-page for me!

My wife just smiled and said “I just want to be ready BEFORE the ceiling falls in on us”.  To-wit I instantly recovered by saying “Ain’t gonna happen… but ‘if’ the time ‘ever’ comes, I’ll let you know before it’s time to run”.

Now that was a not-so-rare moment that most of us have or will have faced.  If your mindset is less than 100% committed to what you are doing… and especially “WHY” you’re doing it… you too will get caught by surprise!

Sure you may have doubts… but if your “WHY” is solid, and you are committed to moving forward, those doubts are only “anticipated course corrections”, and will mean little to the overall plan.

Even though you may know that you’re not, an entrepreneur often feels down, alone, and isolated… which, if you let “take hold” is the 1st step of the “QUIT” process.

Solution 1: Get a grip that “angst” quickly…

Picture it vividly in your mind…

… then “re-frame it” into dust!

Every time you practice this, it’ll get easier and faster…

Until it’ll only take a “blink” to snuff it out!

Solution 2: Head it off long before it starts:

Here’s a quick way to remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Kick-start your morale at the start of your day……  start here (Keep it quick and simple.. one question at a time, jot down the first answer that comes to mind.. ):

  1. What am I happy about in my life right now?  How does that make me feel?
  2. What about my life am I excited about right now?   What about that excites me?
  3. What am I most proud about in my life right now?   What about that makes me feel proud?
  4. What am I grateful about in my life right now?  What about that makes me grateful?
  5. What am I enjoying most in my life right now?  What about that do I enjoy?
  6. What am I committed to in my life right now?  What about that makes me committed?
  7. Who do I love in my life, and who loves me?  What about them makes me love?  And how does that make me feel?

Once you’ve jotted down your answers, review them.   After a quick no-brainer read-back, I think you’ll realize that you’re in much better shape than you initially thought…

Example:

Q. What am I happy about in my life right now?  How does that make me feel?
A. I am free to live as I please.  Rids me of the burden of trying to please a boss of a company that doesn’t appreciate me.
Q. What about my life am I excited about right now?   What about that excites me?
A. About the opportunities I see every day.  These Opportunities are massive (numerous).
Q. What am I most proud about in my life right now?   What about that makes me feel proud
A. Most proud of myself and my family for allowing me to “do my thing”.  Feels “Accepted” and “Trusted”
Q. What am I grateful about in my life right now?  What about that makes me grateful?
A. My Family, my community, friends.  That they have faith in me.
Q. What am I enjoying most in my life right now?  What about that do I enjoy?
A. My freedom.  That I get to choose my destiny.
Q. What am I committed to in my life right now?  What about that makes me committed?
A. I am committed to family, then my work.  I get to  practice my lifelong philosophy of “Work only to Live; Not Live only to work”!
Q. Who do I love in my life, and who loves me?  What about them makes me love?  And how does that make me feel?
A. My family, friends, neighbors.  They care and trust me.  Thankful, supported, respected.

REMEMBER:

Ain’t no such thing as lawns without weeds, beauty without flaws, or progress without doubts;  And where your mind goes, your A$$ WILL follow… so make your thoughts count!”

… To Your Success,

Baltimore Dave
