I find this phrase interesting. I found various references to it on the internet. For instance at The Phrase Finder it says:

The easiest questions should be answered initially “as nothing succeeds like success”. Now, we all understand the opposite thought; that nothing SUCCEEDS like SUCCESS in terms of proving that something works, that it’s effective, or is the right course of action.
Experiencing success with any practice or routine can be very compelling and the thought of continued effective and efficient results quite alluring. However, the true source of our success must be examined before we can exalt the virtues of whatever it is we’ve chosen to do. The lesson here is that nothing succeeds like success. The converse is almost certainly true as well: nothing fails like failure, and that may be the best explanation for the failure of Islamic reform movements. Despite their promising beginning in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Islamic modernists movements placed their bets on modernizing the Ottoman Empire as the only effective strategy in warding off aggressive European powers.
It may have been the rational strategy at the time, but it failed when the Ottoman state collapsed. As a result of the political failures of Muslim modernist movements, their intellectual underpinnings have been subject to savage attack, much of it unfair. Just as nothing succeeds like success, nothing fails like failure. Ever since Obama got his ass kicked in the 2010 mid-terms, he has been covered in failure, and the negative mojo appears to be snowballing.

Nothing succeeds like success – that’s how the saying goes. But today I’d like to argue instead that nothing succeeds like failure in improving your table tennis! Don’t get me wrong, success is important. If you never succeeded in table tennis, you would obviously be a failure.
