Internet Marketing Tactics That Work

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Internet Marketing is also known as online marketing, web promoting, and web-based promoting. It makes reference to many methods that are employed to plug products or services on the internet.

This is a very broad area that continues to grow as more modern channels of online communication open up. For example, nobody had heard about Facebook selling 1 or 2 years back, and today, it’s the talk of the city; YouTube has started embedding advertiser’s links into videos posted by users – this too is a new marketing tactic. There are plenty of different angles to online marketing, and these are:

Online Marketing Tactics

Pay-per-click advertising: The sponsored links that you see on search site results ‘ pages are PPC ads. Advertisers register with search engines ‘ advertising channels, pay a small deposit and then bid on search terms (keywords) that are relevant to their business. Their ad shows up when the keyword/s is searched for and they have to pay a predetermined charge each time their ad is clicked on.

S.E.O (Search Engine Positioning): The objective of SEO is to make a site highly identifiable to search websites and thus increase traffic. S.E.O can be performed on-site by including HTML tags and titles, and including topical keywords in the content. Offsite SEO helps generate backlinks by giving away useful or entertaining information in the shape of blog content, articles, white papers, videos, publicity releases, and more. Content marketing, which includes article marketing, is a part of offsite SEO.

Social Media Marketing:This refers to the setting up of appealing pages and making customized apps to be released on prominent social network channels like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. Content can be posted on topical and niche social channels also. The target of social media is to raise brand identity, listen to purchasers, and generate a database of prospects. Corporations can also advertise (PPC) on these channels.

Affiliate online marketing: Merchants can appoint resellers (associates) by enrolling with affiliate networks like CJ.com and LonkShare.com. The affiliate applies to become an affiliate and if the merchant approves, the affiliate starts promoting the merchant’s products on his site. If he sells a product, then the merchant has to pay him a commission. The affiliate network takes a deposit from the merchant and it guarantees that commissions are paid. Merchants and publishers have to work with the web software offered by the network.

Opt-in marketing:This kind of online marketing involves collecting the contact information of prospects with the concept of converting them into buyers. Whitepapers, reports, newsletters, etc, are given away free as long as the customer registers for these. The company then uses this info for future promoting.

Online marketing continues to develop and newer applications are discovered by the day. Today, listing a business on Google Places, which is part of Google maps, is hot because advertisers ‘ physical addresses can be found simply on the web. Online marketing targeting mobile users is catching up in a big way as well. If you’re the owner of a site and do not market it online, you’ll stand to lose because getting more traffic and posting high-value content are the secrets to web success.
