Relationships

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Do you realize that relationships could not or would not exist were it not for comparisons?

In fact one of the simplest definitions I found in a dictionary said simply that “A relationship is the manner in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.”

One of the most prevalent means of learning about and studying them are blogs, which is what you are looking at here. While my posts may change from day to day, my purpose in composing my daily blogs is to provide a foundation for forming such a connection.

In the process of doing my research on the internet I learned, “Personal relationships add richness to our lives, and studies indicate that people live longer, feel healthier and enjoy better emotional and mental health. However, it can be difficult to develop these relationships in a healthy manner.”

It does not end there either for relationships also depend upon the nature and purpose of those involved. For instance what we do for one another depends significantly on who the people are in those relationships, and their needs. Therefore it would seem reasonable to approach each type of relationship differently, rather than based on the same criteria.

For instance let’s think of several distinct types of relationships I am about to mention just now and appreciate how their distinctions mandate a unique approach for dealing with each of them. We’ll begin with loved ones and from my perspective that could include former and current family members, as well as, “yet to be” family members.

We could also examine businesses and relationships involving their customers, clients, employees and management. Each of those distinctions I just made require a complete distinction, if indeed we want to understand the best possible approach of getting these people to maximize their value and commitment to one another.

One other type of relationship I believe it would be vital to understand so that we could properly address their current and future needs would be those with children and not simply our own, alone. Whether as a teacher, grandparent, relative, scout master, dentist, physician, nurse, or advertiser, you must appreciate not merely the children involved, but also the concerns of their parents.

So where do we go from here? Well if you have not already done so, I recommend you look at some of my previous blogs and notice the amount of emphasis I have placed on appreciating our own true potential. The one you have with yourself is without a doubt, the single most important relationship you will ever have with anyone. If you can grasp that one we can thoroughly explore and appreciate these other types I have referenced, in a series of blogs I’ll be posting within the next week or so.
