Anthony Longwell's best post tells the story of Landfill Harmonic, an orchestra in Cateura, Paraguay, where children living around a landfill learned to play instruments built entirely from scrap by local craftsmen after a music teacher arrived with more students than violins. It is the kind of story Longwell clearly found moving enough to slow down and actually tell rather than summarize.

The rest of the blog curates other people's news and biography: an AP obituary for motivational speaker Zig Ziglar, a Wikipedia-style rundown of Jim Carrey's career, and a post on Colonel Sanders being turned down over a thousand times before finding financing, used to argue that persistence outlasts talent. A post on the history of the potato chip industry has nothing to do with any of this, an unexplained detour into food trivia.

Landfill Harmonic is the most genuinely affecting writing on this blog. Everything around it functions as a clippings file more than original commentary.
