The Gift of Giving!

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

2015 has been a huge year for our family in so many ways- from achieving goals and dreams, to seeing our kids succeed in school.

So, this Christmas we decided to make it all about blessing others. After all, we know what it is like to struggle and are forever grateful to those who reached out and blessed us. We wanted to pay it forward and inspire others to do the same.

Most Christmases, our tree would be overflowing with gifts but our kids are now much older and have a good understanding of the true purpose of Christmas, including the gift of giving. So, with this in mind, we took half of our present money and put it towards this mission.

This Christmas, we wanted to bless families in need who were really struggling to get even the necessities such as, bread, milk and meat. The response was overwhelming and also so sad at the same time, to see so many people in our own communities in desperate need of help.

We set out and made Christmas packs which included things like meat, bread, milk, some goodies too such as candy, chocolates and chippies for the kids.

We were able to bless 7 families with these Christmas packs- 6 of these families we had never met before. The desperation and humility could be seen in their eyes.

Our kids were right there with us, helping to pack and deliver. It was important for us to show our kids the importance of helping those around you. But also showing them to use whatever they have in their hands or within their reach. Many people say, ‘I have nothing to give’? – look around you, look within you… everyone has something to give. Whether its food, clothing, resources, time, friendship or just a shoulder to lean on.

Be THAT person. The one that reaches out.

7 families would now have a better Christmas than anticipated, however it was us that walked away blessed. Giving activates so many amazing things in your life such as;

– Abundance >

Proverbs 28:27 He that gives to the poor shall not lack

– Blessings/ Happiness/ Success >

Deuteronomy 15:10 You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to.

– Reap Bountifully >

2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

It also brings a peace and favour on your life that no one can take away. What goes around comes around.

Next year we aim to double our reach and bless 14 families. We pray that this will also inspire you to go out and do the same.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
