5 Video Blog Tips and Mistakes On How to Use A Cell Phone to do Video Blogging Like a Pro

Video Blog Tips on using a cell phone like a pro by learning from my mistakes!

Technology is only as good as the user… so here’s some quick & easy video blog tips to get you on top of video blogging.

With better lenses and higher resolution than camcorder years back, anyone can make movies.

The simplest of my video blog tips to remember is to always shoot the Wide Angle Shot!

All cell phone videos should be used in the horizontal position.

Why…

Because when you see it on the computer, the picture will display horizontally. You’ll have blank on the sides if you shoot vertically.

I know, it can be frustrating to always shoot horizontally, and you can rotated during editing (a pain)… but it’s better to just remember to keep that cell phone on the wide shot angle.

The second of my video blog tips is to get acquainted with your phone.

Simple things such as where is the camera lens?

How will you hold the camera to not cover the lens?

How many videos have you taken where part of the movie was ruined because of a strange looking blurring blob cut off the most important part of the movie?

Also, find the cell phone’s mic before you start your video. Make sure you’re not covering that up, either.

It also helps to keep the mic close to the subject you’re videoing… but not too close or the subject will  get distorted & have a look of a goldfish in a bowl.

I have found with the iphone… the handy buckle clip that connects to a belt is perfect for holding the camera. I just slid 2 or 3 of my fingers snugly under the buckle and it works just like a tight strap.

Perfect for keeping your hand away (and roaming fingers) from the lens & mic. It also makes it easy to hold & steady while you film!

Hold it steady is the 3rd of my video blog tips.

Have you ever seen videos that you almost got sea sick watching?

Panning too fast around or moving the cell phone with a jerking motion will do it every time!

As you pan… count one thousand and one, one thousand and two as you move the camera and you’ll find you’ll slow down & take better videos.

Also, if you want to focus on one spot, count to one thousand & five as you hover on that area.You gotta give the viewer time to observe.

I’ve also found the belt buckle clip to work great as a tripod in a pinch. Or resting you elbow on a flat surface helps to steady the camera.

You can buy a camera tripod if you plan on doing a lot of still shots with you speaking directly to the phone during your movie.

I love shooting outdoors, especially in my gardens, where there is always something interesting & beautiful to look at.

Also, I feel very comfortable there which helps me to relax and enjoy my videoing.

Where are you the most comfortable at? That’s a great place to start videoing!

It’s best to stay out of direct sunshine outdoors, which will wash out people’s faces and make everything look faded.

Colors will look the best outdoors and it’s easier to keep the viewer’s continued interest by what’s going on around you.

The last of my video blog tips is to make sure you are shooting  with  HD. It’s the newest and best of cell phone cameras and really produce high quality videos.

Don’t worry about investing in a camcorder. You can do that when you’re making tons of money and want to splurge for a good tax deduction!
