Unleashing Your Creativity

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

So how do you unleash your creative thinking? Well, the first thing is to become a human leech and take in as much knowledge and learning as you can find. Read everything available while keeping your mind open to infinite possibilities of the universe. The more you know, the more you’ll want to know, and the more your faculty of wonder will be exercised. Prepare to be amazed at what have you  learned.

Focus on doing a creative activity everyday.

I know… it’s an effort, but even doodling is a creative activity. Don’t let anything hinder you. Mindlessness may be a creative activity, but for those that are just starting out to unleash a little bit of creative thinking in their lives, its helpful and encouraging. Practice drawing for a couple of minutes every day.

Bring out your old camera and start taking pictures like crazy. Keep a journal and make a point to write in it religiously. Another cool idea is to write by describing  something with your five senses. Try to avoid adjectives like “amazing”,  “marvelous”, and “delicious”. Before you know it you will have made  a little portfolio, and you’ll be amazed at the growth you’ve undertaken after amassing all those works of art. Who knows  you might actually like doing all those things you’ve don everyday. Pretty soon those things become a part of you & you’ll be addicted to those creative exercises.

You also want think out of the box –or don’t. Sometimes, constraints are actually a good thing. Limitations discipline you to work with in your means. It enables you to be more resourceful. Don’t  get me wrong  creative freedom is great but limitations enforce discipline.

Get out of your comfort zone!

Try something new every day and let your experiences  to broaden your perspective. Perhaps going to a new district in your neighborhood. Spend an afternoon at a museum that you have never been before. Be open to people around, make a new friend and chat up someone on the bus. Once you get out of your comfort zone and the more you get out of your comfort zone your sense of adventure starts to grow & so does your zest for life. Remember when you did something for the first time that was out of your comfort zone and how great it felt when you stuck with it and accomplished what it was?! If you haven’t the your missing out on a whole lot of experiences that could add to your growth, emotionally, physically, mentally and/or spiritually. So get out and do something creatively different, who knows you might actually learn something while having fun. Plus, you will have plenty of stories to share, enabling you to practice your storytelling, blogging skills and make you the life of the party.

Embrace insanity!

I know your thinking what?!  I heard once that “ Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting”. Every creative thought is once thought to be insane by other “normal” people at one time or another. Luckily that didn’t stop the geniuses from standing by them. The thing is sanity or being normal confines people to think within limits. Yes this includes the bizarre & down right straight but it is important that your creativity doesn’t detach from the real word.

I hope you enjoyed my article on unleashing your creativity!
