New EN Blog Theme – Empower Custom 1.0
If this is not your first visit to an Empower Network blog, you would surely notice a striking difference between the current look of my blog and those you’ve seen elsewhere, primarily before December 2012.
Empower Network Theme 2.0
(default, non-custom theme)
Quite by accident I stumbled upon it the other day – the new customizable, brandable Empower Network wordpress theme called Empower Custom 1.0, and decided to give it a try.
First, I needed a header image. So, I went to Fiverr.com and paid 5 dollars to get it done. The designer I used was Jimmy Gibbs. He was great to work with and he made me an awesome website/blog header in less than 8 hours.
An Answer to EN Objectors
This new custom theme provides a resounding answer to the objections that have been raised by some concerning the appearance of Empower Network blogs. No longer can people hide behind that excuse as a reason for not jumping on board this viral blogging platform.
According to Alexa ranking system, Empower Network (as of today) is in the top 270 websites in the US and in the top 490 globally.
What does that mean for EN bloggers?
It means that Empower Network is drawing a lot of website traffic, and the blogs in its system have a greater likelihood of being found than if you were to start one from scratch.
However, as individual EN bloggers, we must still continue to blog daily and market daily to increase our blog’s visibility on the world wide web.
To My Fellow Empower Network Bloggers
If you already have an EN blog and would like to use the new Empower Custom 1.0 theme, here’s what you do:
1) Log into your EN blog.
2) Go to Themes section (under Appearance in the left navigation).
You will see two sections:
– Current Theme (Empower Network Theme 2.0)
– Available Themes (Empower Custom 1.0)
3) To use the Empower Custom 1.0 theme, click Activate.
[If you decide you’re not ready to use the new theme yet, then just change back to the default one by activating it.]
4) Customize your new theme.
– Add a header (go to Appearance > Header).
[Note: there is an error in the theme’s header dimensions – it says 940×198, but this is clearly not correct. I tried using a wider banner (960px) and it still did not fit properly. Anyway, there’s nothing you or I can do about it. It will have to be fixed by the EN programmers.]
– Change the background (go to Appearance > Background)
If your background image is not really repeatable, choose the following in the Display Options section:
Position: Center
Repeat: No Repeat
Attachment: Fixed
Better yet, create a repeatable background. See: How to Easily Create a Seamless Blog Background.
– Personalize your sidebar (go to Appearance > Widgets)
Important points:
If you activate the Empower Custom 1.0 theme, the EN banners that are in the default theme will no longer be there.
I replaced the side one manually as follows:
2) upload image to your EN blog (go to Media > Add New)
3) insert a TEXT widget into the Primary Widget Area (go to Appearance > Widgets)
4) add the text below into the TEXT widget and click save. (Remember to change USERNAME and YOUR IMAGE LINK accordingly)
<a href="/almostasecret.php?id=USERNAME"> <img src="YOUR IMAGE LINK" alt="" border="0" /> </a>
Please note: this does not produce the hover effect you see on mine. I had to do a bit more coding ‘magic’ to get that to happen.
Ready for an Empower Network Blog
See you on the inside!
