A Lesson from a Superbowl Ad
It’s Superbowl Sunday, and if you’re not already in a food-induced coma from chips, dips, pizza, and wings, you’re getting ready for a fun-filled game filled with great plays, game changing referee calls, and of course the all-important entertaining
superbowl ad
.
But why are these ads so special on this day, and how does the superbowl ad
help you with your business?
First off, in my opinion sometimes a superbowl ad can be more entertaining and memorable than the game itself. I mean come one, who doesn’t remember the car commercial from last years’ Steelers/Packers matchup with the kid dressed like Darth Vader?
It was memorable and cute and it got the point across quickly and efficiently and you kept talking about for the next week and watching it on YouTube over and over again.
So I ask you again, how can a superbowl ad help you with your business?
In all actuality, a superbowl ad is the perfect model of a business that you can’t get enough of. They attract a large audience and are creative and daring with their methods of advertising.
Whether it’s a penguin singing “Dooby, Dooby Doo” or a Dalmatian training a Clydesdale for a coveted spot on the Budweiser wagon, any superbowl ad makes it’s point clearly and creatively.
Now yes there is the occasional superbowl ad that is a total bomb and gets mentioned on the 10 top ten worst list (just watched it on YouTube a couple of days ago, and all of them were pretty well-deserved of that title, a disgrace to the title of superbowl ad in my opinion), but in all honesty to be considered for a superbowl ad is a huge honor for any business owner.
When you see a superbowl ad, you need to remember that those businesses that put together those ads have had their ups and downs too. Many of them have worked long hours into the night to produce quality content worthy of a
superbowl ad
.
Thousands of dollars are spent on research and resources, not to mention the appearance of a popular celebrity goes into producing a superbowl ad.
Then there’s time slots, frequency of the superbowl ad being shown, and many other factors that go into a superbowl ad.
If you think about it, it’s no different than running a business in online marketing.
We are constantly striving to create our own superbowl ad with quality content that people will watch and read over and over again and want to talk to their friends and coworkers about.
Yes it’s not easy, but when you create your first blog post or YouTube video that does gain superbowl ad attention, then you know that you’ve arrived.
So while you’re watching Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots take down the New York Giants tonight (we have family in Boston, but I also love visiting New York City too), remember what I’ve told you about the superbowl ad.
Pay close attention to them and watch to see if everything I’ve said happens. I’m willing to bet that you’ll learn a couple of lessons in online marketing while you’re watching Matthew Broderick do a Ferris Bueller remake and Jerry Seinfeld offering up the Soup Nazi in exchange for a new car.
Oh, and by the way, Chris and I would love to hear what you thought was the best superbowl ad of tonight!
Go Patriots!
