Why Do Only Serious Marketers Watch Curious George?
I’ll tell you in a minute & there’s a good chance you’ll be shocked…
But first, let me tell you a story that completely changed my perception of the world…
This is a story about how to do the impossible.
Of how to make a snowman in the middle of Summer…
A drop of sweat rolled down his forehead as the little boy stared at the picture of the snowman.
He remembered how much fun it was to watch the snowballs grow as he rolled them along the frozen ground.
Sticks for arms, a radish for his nose [the little boy couldn’t find a carrot, & didn’t want to wait to finish his snowman until he got one] and little black rocks for his eyes and mouth.
He found himself very much wanting to make a snowman. Unfortunately, it was summertime. And there wasn’t any snow to make snowmen out of.
Suddenly, he had a great idea.
Since there isn’t any snow, why not make some? Snow is pretty much tiny pieces of ice, right?
So the little boy decided to take some ice cubes and grind them up into snow!
But the pieces were too big. They wouldn’t fit together to make snowballs, and would instead just crumble in his hands.
The little boy didn’t give up. He realized that he needed something that would stick together to make a snowman out of.
Mud! Brilliant!
He went outside, found some mud, and rolled it into a ball for his snowman’s butt. Then he rolled the ball for the midsection. But by then, the base had melted and deformed. Mud wouldn’t work.
He needed something indestructible.
Rocks! Rocks are indestructible, right?
He noticed 3 large, round stones that were just right.
But he couldn’t budge the rock for the base. Or the middle. Or the head. By the end, he damn near had a hernia.
Although everything he had tried before had failed…
He kept looking for a way. He hadn’t found one, but he kept looking.
“What’s going on, champ?” his dad said, probably wondering why his little boy was covered in mud and exhausted.
When the little boy told his dad what he had been doing, his father decided to take him to the beach to take his mind of it.
When he got to the beach…
MASSIVE breakthrough.
He realized that if he could make castles out of sand, he could make a snowman.
So he got some wet sand, molded it into a ball, and started it rolling.
It crumbled in his little hands.
So he piled it up as tall as he could, then he started to carve and shape it into a snowman.
He used driftwood for the arms, seaweed for the scarf, little rocks for the mouth, seashells for the eyes and nose.
That’s how you make a snowman in the summer.
That’s how you do the impossible. Never give up.
Here’s the really cool part.
That little boy…
Was actually a monkey called Curious George.
He never gave up and because of that his vision was made real.
I watched this story on PBS kids while delirious from lack of sleep because of the single most life changingly EPIC event… EVER… In Chicago. Too pumped up to sleep because of excitement over the event and anticipation of the next day.
