Video SEO

If you don’t know a thing about SEO, otherwise known as Search Engine Optimization, I’m not gonna give a full lesson on it here. I’ll give you this though: SEO has a pretty big learning curve and takes time to learn well…but it’s worth it. Why?

If you are trying to generate leads for your business or just want more traffic to your website or blog, video seo is always going to out compete virtually every other type of traffic out there just because of the nature of what it is. Why is that?

Because if you can start ranking your content on the first page of Google for certain keywords and phrases, you are getting FREE traffic. You are finding people who want the information you are offering. And did I mention it’s free?

Not only is it free but it is one of the few sources of traffic that can’t really be stopped. This is because the internet is run off of content and all the search engines love unique, original content. It keeps the internet engine running.

With that in mind, I wanted to toss out a few helpful pointers on ranking videos in YouTube and also Google. (Google actually owns YouTube so let’s just call it GoogleTube) Video SEO or ranking videos can help the rest of your content rank high as well, if you link the video back to that content. In other words, if you mention your content in the video either with by telling people to go visit your content or by putting a link in the description box of your video. Video SEO.

Video SEO

Their are a few major things you need to make sure of when you’re uploading a video for video SEO purposes. The first is, make sure your keyword is in your title. Obviously. If it’s a phrase make sure it’s in the title in exact order. If you were trying to rank for a phrase like “Home based business secrets” you’d want to be sure all four words were in exact order. Not “Home based business traffic secrets”. You don’t want them broken up. Make sure they are all in order  right next to each other and not peppered with other words.

Make sure you put that exact keyword phrase or title in the description box of your YouTube Video. You might ask “Should I write a long description or a short description?” – the answer to that isn’t so clear really. What really matters is that you have your keyword in your description and write a little more then a sentence.

I’ve found that if I take the time to write out more then just my keyword or phrase, it tends to rank a little better then not writing much about it. So I guess the answer is leaning towards yes, writing a little more then a sentence will help you rank better then writing hardly anything more then your keyword or phrase.

Video SEO

Some people actually pay to have their videos transcribed and then put that in the description box of their videos. They’ve found that that does help. If you’ve got the time or resources, I’d say go for it. If not, just make sure you have your keyword or phrase in the description and you’ll be ahead of most people who are trying to rank their videos.

I will be giving you a few more pointers in my next post. One of them works really, really well. I have no Idea why it works but I don’t really care because it does, and that’s all that matters in the game of SEO or video SEO.
