Loosing Weight And A Video About Low Carb Bread That Is Hilarious

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

I have never been a fan of anything low carb or low fat. I always question what chemicals they are adding to give it that designation.

Watch this video for a good laugh!

I have been gaining weight at about the rate of approximately five pounds per year for the last fifteen years.

I feel like I was just about at the right weight fifteen years ago. It is funny how weight creeps up on you! I hesitate to say that I gained weight without warning but it certainly was gradual.

Yes, I could see how large I was getting! I would make an effort to change my diet for a short while and would loose some weight but then I would get tired of not enjoying what I like and would just do whatever I wanted until I got disgusted enough with myself to put forth more effort! So for me it has been a roller coaster but I had not hit the high point in the ride!

Shortly after my last doctors visit I received a call from one of the nurses to tell me that based on my blood test that my triglycerides were off the chart!

Ok, It’s time to deal! My doctor put me on Lovaza which after asking a few questions I realized that the caplets are nothing more than fish oil with omega 3.

I am not a big advocate of medication and I did not want to take anything that would have side effects! Luckily Lovaza is just a higher quality fish oil and the only side effect is lower cholesterol.

Now I am not one to embrace diet and change immediately so I cut back on food intake but did not restrict my alcohol intake, after all a man must have his vices!

My real turning point was vacation in Mexico. On Friday I enjoyed a small breakfast( just one plate mind you, I was cutting back). Then I went to the pool which of course has a swim up bar and had a great start to the day drinking everything in sight. Followed by just one order of fish tacos for lunch.

Later on that night I realized that the fish tacos were not so good (food poisoning) and proceeded to be quite sick!

That was when I determined that even though I was being conservative as far as food intake was concerned, that I had way exceeded what any stomach should hold!

The following day it was Sprite to drink, I skipped breakfast and was feeling better by lunch but still off my game. I ordered just a bowl of soup which was just right. Here is what I realized and I have heard it before but not taken it to heart. Your stomach is a muscle and is no larger than your fist.

Why do we cram food into our mouths, go back for seconds and thirds when the stomach is the size of a fist?

I came home from Mexico with a new mindset. An action plan so to speak. Here is what I am doing and I will also share with you what my wife Barbie is doing to complement my idea!

I call it the modified soup diet.

I make all the soups myself omitting the carby stuff that helps keep me fat! No creamy soup and no noodles. I will start with soup bones or stock, add meat as needed and slice up a bunch of veggies. I have found that if slicing carrots, radishes and cabbage just right it almost seems like I am eating noodles!

Breakfast is either a can of tuna mixed with dill relish and a little mayo, eggs with veggies, oatmeal or the occasional bagel with peanut butter.

Somewhere between breakfast and lunch I also sneak in a piece of fruit which has mostly been absent from my food intake since I graduated from high school.

I am only eating soup once a day usually at lunch which is where I used to splurge on sandwiches, pizza, fried chicken, Chinese food, Mexican food or just about anything that you might deem unhealthy.

Dinner is usually kinda Atkin’s Diet stuff but not in quantity. Some type of lean meat and a salad with a lower calorie count dressing ( not low fat as I don’t like the taste or the chemicals that make it low fat) or veggies.

I reserve the right two days a week to drink alcohol and to enjoy whatever I want food wise!

Barbie has added 2-3 days of fasting into the mix! I have not decided to dive that deep yet but for her she is doing really well and loosing weight more rapidly than me! When I say fasting she is still eating but no carbs at all and she restricts her intake to 500 calories on those days.

When you change you habits and start a plan realize that all that weight did not occur overnight nor will it magically melt away after a week or a month. Loosing weight requires consistency. So far so good! I am evaluating my efforts weekly but I have stopped listening to the scale and started accepting the evidence that is before my eyes!

I am down 20 lbs and have a long way to go! Come on spring! I am looking forward to adding walking into the mix!

As I continue I lean more toward healthy and away from fried food on my days off from dieting.

Remember gradual change will be rewarded with results that make you feel better and look better.
