This one was scary…

Rob’s Garage

I was awakened from a sound sleep by a loud bang, it sounded like someone had kicked in the front door! I remember looking at the clock, it was 3:30am. I jumped out of bed quickly parted the bedroom window shade and peered outside, seeing nothing, in the dark, naked, I fumbled my way to the gun safe. I attempted to open my biometric safe. It was set to unlock based on my fingerprints. I have never attempted to open the safe in the dark let alone under duress. I first had to locate the button to start the scan then press my fingertip against the window until the safe door unlocks. Four attempts later with much fumbling and loud beeping and finally I got the safe to open.

I quietly opened the bedroom door and negotiated the stairs slowly making my way to the door at the bottom of the landing. I opened the door as quietly and as quickly as I could with the barrel of my 40mm pointed up and my finger on the trigger. We have never experienced a home invasion but I had to excersise caution because my stepson lives in the unattached garage but he does come in to eat and use the bathroom.

Feeling exposed and vulnerable even though I was armed I dropped the pistol to level and looked to my left then my right. I did not see anything yet but that didn’t mean a lot to me, my heart hammering trying to find it’s way out of my ribcage! Just outside of the landing is both the entrance to the living room and in the other direction the doorway into the kitchen. No lights were lit so I was still in darkness. I made my way through the living room to the front door. It was unbroken and appeared to be closed.

I retraced my steps and entered the kitchen, all still appearing clear. I opened the door to the basement where there is another doorway out into the driveway and checked it as well.

Whew! all seemed to be secure! I made my way to the kitchen window and on my toes peered out into the driveway then walked to the sliding glass door and flipped on the back yard flood lights. Nothing moving!

I made my way into the living room and looked out all the windows, all was quiet and seemingly peaceful except for me. Adrenalin pumping and paranoid.
