Those Work From Home Blues

Now don’t get me wrong. My work from home business is the best decision I ever made. Getting out of corporate America, finding a business I could do from home and enjoying the freedom keeps me energized, motivated and inspired. But then there are those times when work from home blues creeps in.

Just about everyone that has a work from home business has, at some time or another, encountered the dreaded ‘Work From Home Blues‘.  After all we are all human and running 22/7 most of the time, can start to wear on even the best entrepreneur.  Let’s face it… we work from home because we love it.  We love to have the time with our family, the freedom to do what we want, when we want.

So there are those moments whether you feel like you have little sense of accomplishment, have no social life, or maybe it is because the scene never changes.  I can tell you this is all normal and in fact, it is your body and your creative mind needing a much needed break to rejuvenate.

Although these feelings may make people reconsider their decision to choose the dream job – working from home – there are quite a few ways to cure the blues.

Instead of working a nine to five job, along with your daily commute may seem like a walk in the park compared to us work from home business owners, we do get to a point where our work from home business can be more automated which might occasionally only work three to four hours a day – working for oneself can mean work comes in waves.

So taking a break won’t hurt your business. If you need to get away from your work for a while during this downtime, get outside! Spending just half an hour a day outside can make a huge difference when it comes to your health and mental well-being. Walking is a great way to come up with some new ideas for your business, whether it is by yourself, with the company of another person, or walking your dog, not only are you getting exercise but a change of scenery. This can be a great place to think up fresh perspectives on the problems your business may be facing.

The extra time can often be interchangeable with ‘personal’ time. Reading a book, listening to audios, learning a new instrument, even trying out new cooking recipes can make a huge difference to one’s personal happiness and sanity when it comes overcoming those work from home blues.

Even though one of the best benefits to working at home is the gas and time saved from commuting back and forth from work. Taking the car out can still be a great way to fight off the blues. A trip to the local gym for an hour a day not only provides physical fitness, but a sense of accomplishment.

Work From Home Blues

Overcoming the ‘Work From Home Blues’ comes down to just a few key principles. Make use of that extra time by getting active and doing different things each day, from reading that book that has been on the shelf for a few months, to learning a new language.  Go for a walk taking with you a video camera.  This is a great time to shoot a video you can later share on your blog or channel.

Changing your scenery often when not working is crucial. Once these few principles are applied, it will help in overcoming those work from home blues and feel like a much better experience.
