What is the one thing a blog for profit needs most?
Traffic = real people searching for information…. And they are able to find your blog posts and start visiting your blog if you do a few things to catch the search engines attention.
If you are just starting out, your goal should be to shoot for attracting 1000 or more visitors per month to your blog. Add Google Analytics to help you to track activity on your blog, what your visitors are reading, where they are coming from and much more other helpful statistics.
The more visitors the more opportunity to build rapport, make connections and always invite your blog visitors to get onto your email list so they can learn of your upcoming blog posts. AND…. at the same time, while they are on your blog, they will be able to learn more about you, your business, products, programs or services.
So it is really important to get visitors to your blog each month. It’s a Win Win!
5 Ways To Get More Than 1000 Visitors To Your Blog
#1 – Writing For Attention
Make it your first priority when you get your blog set up. Focus on writing good valuable content, do some videos that will catch the attention of the search engines. It isn’t hard to write what you are passionate about. But then, I know that we are all not Ernest Hemingway!
So find other blog posts, articles or take notes during a training that you are in. These are just some ways to give you ideas of what to write about, what you can share that may be of interest…. keeping in mind who your target audience is.
#2 – Grab Them With Images
Have you ever noticed that the ‘images’ you share in your blog posts also will be on the search engines?
That’s right! Adding attention grabbing images throughout your blog posts…. you should be doing this if you are not already. Your images should include the appropriate ‘tag’ that includes the keyword of your blog post. As you can see here (image below)…. My images show up for the 2 blog posts I wrote about Twitter and LinkedIn.
People are drawn to pictures so use larger, higher resolution images. And be careful with ‘copyright’…I always say to be safe, go purchase some images through sites like BigStockPhoto or you can search for ‘royalty free’ images.
#3 – Share, Share, Share!
I’m still amazed at how many entrepreneurs and online marketers will spend the time to punch out blog posts and videos, but won’t share them on the social sites. Social media is a great way to leverage your followers and gain attention when your followers share your links. Your time spent on sharing your content will bring a huge return in many ways. But for this post, it will certainly drive folks to your blog!

Consider joining a blogging syndication group or you can also consider some tools to automate social sharing. The only thing I caution about using tools especially when it comes to social media, is that more and more people are looking for a personal touch. People want to meet people and not a robot.
#4 – Videos Are A Must
Just as images are really important to grab the attention of the search engines, so are videos. And it is proving to be ever more important, supported by climbing percentage of people watching videos vs. articles and even blog posts.
I noticed something very interesting…
After posting my blog about Quick Tour of Your Twitter Profile, I had forgotten to upload the video to YouTube. As you can see from the image above, I uploaded the video 6 days after my blog post. One of my team members messaged me and said… ‘hey Lynn, your Twitter video is ranking on Google 1st Page and it has only been 6 hours’! THAT IS CRAZY, RIGHT?!
Just proves that video is a powerful medium right now…so take advantage of it. Keep them short, maybe 3 minutes or so. You can literally do a video that summarizes or introduces your blog post. It can really be anything as long as you remember to share ‘valuable’ information and you use the keywords.
#5 – Word Of Mouth
This is a much under rated strategy. Especially because so many people are all on their smart phones or computers. People don’t even answer their phones anymore, they prefer you TEXT them!
So make up some cards (NOT BUSINESS CARDS) that has your tag line or a catch phrase that briefly describes what your blog site is about, along with the link to your blog. Anyone that asks what you do? Just hand them the card!
And I’m going to go as far to add in here… word of mouth as in your profiles. What I mean by that is, look at your social media sites. Do your profiles include the link to your blog? Do you ‘tell’ people to come over and visit your blog?
I have seen so many social site profiles with no links to the blog site. This is the first thing you can do right now that has another opportunity for people on your social sites, to click and easily visit your blog.
You know there are so many other ways to gain attention from the search engines or the social media sites to get people to click on your blog posts, sending new and returning visitors to your blog!
Me and my team, we follow a simple 1,2,3 strategy….
1) BLOG DAILY
2) TELL OTHERS
3) GET PAID
Your blog for profit should focus on providing value to your audience. This is key to getting them to visit, come back to visit again and again…and to build a connection that will have them doing business with you.
