Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Pinterest is a pin board style website. It’s one of the top sources for traffic online today used to promote a business, blog, or website. It’s also been one of the best sites used for brand building.

In a Case Study on Pinterest it was found that Pinterest drives more traffic than Google +, LinkedIn, and YouTube combined.

Users can create their own boards of selected photos and then browse for other photos to “re-pin” and like. It’s basically a visual/picture based micro blogging community that drives massive traffic.

Pinterest was put into development in 2009 and launched in 2010. It was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. It is funded by a group of entrepreneur/investors, and is managed by Cold Brew Labs.

Pinterest has quickly become one of the leading social  networks for driving traffic and getting referals.

In August 2011, Time magazine listed Pinterest in its “50 Best Websites of 2011” article.

In December of 2011 it became one of the top 10 social networks with more than 11 million visitors per week according Hitwise Data
