More About “Right” Tools

I remember last April when I bought my Macbook just before embarking on what would turn out to be the first of 10 trips last year to marketing events of various shapes and sizes.

When I got to the condo (a GRN property btw) that would be home sweet home for a few friends and me for the extended weekend during “No Excuses 3″ in Las Vegas – my first trip to Vegas btw …

All I could think at first was – “WHAT have you done … coming all this way with this foreign machine and expecting to get anything done AT ALL.”

Here’s the picture that I posted on FB the Day I got there.

Three days later …

I was literally in love with the thing.

Seriously we’ve been inseparable since then (just ask my husband) … and to say that this “right tool” has changed my entire online marketing experience… well you know how hindsight goes…

Oh I was an avid .. even staunch … PC user for years.

More than a decade … bordering on two!

Couldn’t tell me different.

But then I decided I wanted to do video – and all these Mac references kept plopping themselves in my path… and OMG if I’d realized it was Keynote that did all those fancy presentation moveswith just a couple clicks and substantially cut down on the number of slides needed to do the job … I’dve been on the Mac train l-o-t-s sooner.

Anyway – back to Las Vegas.

At first I was frustrated with my new tool(s) – I was also sporting a brand new smart phone that I’d finally given in to and starting to figure out how and when to do video with it.

Yes it was one of those ‘throw yourself in the pool and swim’ weekends. In lots of ways.

My husband John is a big lover of having the right tools – and if he doesn’t have one or can’t get one to do the job, he literally fabricates something that’ll do what needs doing.

You ever do that?

Anyway – to wrap this up and make sense of it as a post … lol …. how’s that for starting with a 6yo’s video and talking about something while talking about nothing (really just whatever came into my head this morning….)

Getting tools in your hands that help you do the job you need as quickly and easily as possible is a game changer.

Sometimes it’s uncomfortable (did I really have the $ to get myself properly outfitted and off to all those events last year? By “normal accounts – nope)…

But immersion and perseverance (have seen some amazing perseverance with Zane’s Minecraft adventure) will always serve us.

Do you have any “triumph” examples like this happening in your life right now?

Sometimes it’s the littlest things that actually tip the scales… literally the right tool or skillset can give “the Slight Edge”

One of my fave mentors did a training last night on “Slight Edge” concepts.

This one was about events – btw, events have changed my WHOLE online marketing game.

Kinda ironic that meeting people in person should affect online marketing so profoundly, eh? Strange but true.

But I digress …

He also has a story (which I’m living proof of) about the “Not so Slight Edge” – the real life story that high ticket commissions are also a major game changer.

Zane’s getting the same lesson about “diamonds” being better than other materials for crafting his future self. Not because they sparkle, but because they take less work to craft. And the stuff you make with them is stronger.

I could go off on a tangent (kind of a rant) about high ticket commissions …

But we’ll have to talk about that another time.
