What Happens When A Dream Is Deferred?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Big-dreamsWhen we were kids, ALL of us dreamed big.

There was no limit to our imagination.

We dreamed of flying to other planets, without a space suit on.

We dreamed of being big time lawyers, doctors, ball players, actors and actresses.

We dreamed that we could fly like Superman…

And many of us tried it and quickly discovered the law of gravity.

We dreamed of having the big ginormous houses with luxury cars, maids, the whole nine yards.

We dreamed of being married forever to one person and having this big ol family with kids, grand kids, and great grands.

There were no limits to our dreams back then.

Sadly, the more we spoke our dreams out loud, the easier it was for those dream killers to come right along and unknowingly crush them. You know them. They are well meaning people, people that love you, heck they may even be related to you…

Mom, dad, grandma, cousin Shawn, 3rd grade teacher, Pastor Walker, Uncle Willie… images (6)

They sound familiar?

When we verbalize our dreams they’d be quick to tell us to get our head out of the clouds, or there’s no way we can do that, or stop dreaming and start being realistic.

Dreams….crushed….

Slowly but surely we start wondering what’s the point in dreaming if we can’t verbalize it, if we are constantly being told that we can’t accomplish it.

But it’s cool. As kids we are resilient, we bounce back. We then grow into the stage where we are always asking for something. But what’s the quick sometimes irritated reply that we get?

No you can’t get that. We can’t afford it.

or

I don’t have money for that so stop asking.

CRUSHED…over and over again.

So we stop asking, as much (lol).

Then we get older, go through our teen years and start dreaming again…

This time its about the college that we want to go to. For many of us, our parents say get that college off your list because we can’t afford that. That saying, “we can’t afford it” rings so loud in our ears and subconscious minds.

If we don’t get a scholarship, we end up getting student loans and going off to college (if you went) in hopes of getting a good education, so you can get a high paying job, so you will never have to say those dreaded words…

We soon realize that the real world is FULL OF DREAM KILLERS.

They abound everywhere.

Immediately we stop speaking our dreams and fall in the trap that millions of people fall into. We get jobs and every time most of us get paid we are constantly reminded of how we can’t do something because of the size of our paycheck.

Eventually many people stop dreaming.

They shrink their dreams down to the size of their income.

I used to be like that…

But I quickly broke out of that in my mid 20′s.

I realized that God created me, He created you with unlimited potential that He intends for us to use. The only true limits that we have are those we place on ourselves.

Because I am acutely aware now of my potential, I don’t tolerate conversations of people that limit themselves, especially when its due to income. I attempt to help them to dream bigger…

Usually I get met with resistance and a gesture of “yeah whatever”.

So I stop talking with that person and move on.

I’ve learned that change primarily happens when a person is put into position to receive, you can’t force it.

I’ve also realized that most of our big dreams and goals could be accomplished if…

We…

Had…

MONEY.

Too many people stop dreaming big because their bank accounts are small.

I only have ONE response to that.

GROW YOUR INCOME.

That’s what I did and that’s what I help others do that are READY TO RECEIVE.

I show them how to grow their income.

So my friend, yes you, the one that is still reading.

You can either stop dreaming for good…

Or you can let me show you how to grow your income and START DREAMING BIG AGAIN!
