Get help first
Do you know what Joyce Meyer’s Ministry is and how it started and how God has worked in her life? She was abused and molested as a child by her own father. She transformed into this wonderfully strong Godly Woman who reach out to women (and men, too) – she made her mess her message to the world of a loving God that heals everything, especially our emotional hurts.
Because nobody can help anybody if they themselves have not been helped. You can’t help a drowning person if you are drowning yourself. It is the same philosophy for airlines: if you are a parent, you put the oxygen mask on yourself FIRST, before you put the mask on your own child.
God says “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”
… well, this has a “condition” too, if you analyze it. You have to love yourself first, in a healthy, normal Godly way (you are a child of God, you should not live in fear of others, you shall NOT allow yourself to be abused by others, you should take care of yourself physically and not be careless with your health, etc).
… so if you love yourself, in a healthy way, then, you have love from within you, that you can pour it out to others as well. You can love others because it comes from within, you have it within you. Then you can love your neighbor in a healthy way, too.
… Because there are a lot of people pleasers in this planet, doormats, those who are in perpetual servitude to others and have no self respect.
… there are those who have been victimized… me, I am a proud Single Parent – I did my best, I never went into drugs, have been a good citizen, never hopped from one relationship to another, BUT, I have also been a moving target for arrogant angry men who think they are God’s gift to women.
That’s why I wrote it, when I started this blog …
… I do not need a man to complete me – I am COMPLETE in my relationship with my Creator God, a great relationship with Jesus Christ, and I am SO OKAY with that. 🙂
I just find it funny. God knows how many times I have heard the line “it’s destiny that you and I met…. we have to be together… you are meant for me … ” and all those lying spirits that possess some men when in reality they are just “looking for the next one” who will believe or fall for their lies. The objectification of women, and it’s sad at times, but, a reality nonetheless.
So God always helps me recognize these traps and so I so “I dodge ’em”.
I remember what my mother told my ex-husband when we were engaged… he told my Mom… (she’s a very strong woman and Christian, and funny as heck! I love her to death!)..
So my ex-husband goes …
… “Your daughter is the best and right woman for me, she is a good woman, I know she will make a very good wife.” etc. etc. sugar coated stuff….
And my Mom just saw it….
and she just told my ex-husband…. “Yes, I know all those things, that my daughter is a good woman, I know she will be a good wife because I raised her, and I am a good wife to my husband. I know she will be a good wife because she is not just kind, she is beautiful, she is so highly educated and she is such a great catch for any man. That’s not the issue or the question. The real question is, ARE YOU GOOD enough for my daughter? Will you be a good husband to my daughter?”
OUCH!!!!
I heard that exchange and I thought back then, wow, my Mom was kind of harsh there! But then after years and years of being married to my ex-husband which unceremoniously ended with the police hauling him off to jail that night when he almost killed me and police officers arrived on time to save me….
… yup… I then remembered…. I should have listened to my parents, especially my Mom’s advise/advice. It took me all those years of suffering and fear to even admit that my marriage was failing … it wasn’t what I signed up for … I lived in fear and couldn’t really share that with ANYBODY. But that night, since I had nobody else to call, I called my Mother – overseas phone call.
So she said “Just start all over again, I believe in you, I didn’t raise you to be weak, you are strong.”
