The Success Mentality of the Bird (and how it can help you)
Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.
Take a moment and think of a bird…
The bird wakes early in the morning. It flies out of its nest and pokes various trees, mosses, grasses, etc, in search for food for its chicks.
The bird toils endlessly until it finds its food, be it worms, nuts, or beetles.
The bird doesn’t stop searching until it gets what it wants. Then it returns home and feeds its young.
“How can a bird teach me about success?”
Yesterday I discussed the Venus flytrap mentality and how it can be detrimental. Today the discussion turns to the bird–the archetypal opposite of the Venus flytrap.
As I described in the introductory paragraph, the bird doesn’t stop looking for food until it finds it. It checks every nook and cranny of a tree. Does the tree “reject” the bird? No, the tree is a source of life for many other life-forms, and perhaps even other birds. Just not that bird.
The same goes with people in network marketing–when a prospect says no, it doesn’t mean that the prospect is useless. It means that the business is not a right fit for the prospect, or vice versa. They essentially qualify themselves out. Move on. Don’t take it personally.
With that, check out this video I made concerning the success mentality of the bird:
Rather than being like a Venus flytrap, try to be more like the bird–get up early, work hard, but efficiently, and keep striving towards your goal.
The bird flies away in the morning and toils away all day, but always comes back to its nest with food for its chicks. Persistence is its key to life.
Life is all about patterns. Don’t disrupt the pattern! If you wish to have a life within the business hemisphere, then do the patterns of the business life! Put the busi back into business!
Find a mentor who can help you formulate a daily pattern for you, and commit to keep trying, and failing forward, every single day.
Action steps: How to think like a bird
1) Find a mentor who can help you achieve what you want. It could be a business mentor, or a personal trainer–whatever it is you want. You may have to pay money for this mentor’s time–if you’re not willing to give time or money to achieve your goal, then it’s not that important to you.
2) Work with your mentor to formulate a daily method of action.
3) Stick with this daily method of action for at least 100 days. It may seem like a long time, but you will see results if you keep at it.
4) Make a commitment to your mentor! When you have to be accountable for your commitment, it enforces you to keep at it!
5) Write your commitment to your goals in the comments!
