Chapter 1 – Your Past is Dead

I’m reading Michael Dlouhy’s ebook “10 Steps to success” and intend to write about my thoughts and ideas to each chapter. Here goes chapter one:
Step one – Your Past, Your Present, Your Future
Your past is dead.
No matter how many companies you have joined. No matter how often you failed. It’s in your past. Your past is dead. Stop dwelling on it.
You’ve heard this before: your present is a gift.
Your future can be really bright if you find the solution to your problems.
Your past failures are not your fault. Sigh.
If my product is so wonderful why is not everybody buying it?
I have asked myself in every company I was in, why aren’t people getting this? Why aren’t people wanting to buy those products that everybody want? Why don’t the people who did join me do absolutely nothing? Why is that company closing down now that I am really getting into it?
Have you asked those questions yourself? See? You are not alone.
This should be a fun way to earn money but it’s starting to get like a grinding hard work. No fun.
Let’s face it, you have been lied to. By a big hitter.
Let’s look at some of those lies:
Network marketing is a sales business – it’s not.
Network marketing is a teaching and mentoring business. A people business. Your product – what ever it is – is not as important as your real product: PEOPLE. Don’t study every aspect of your company, your products, marketing plan, name of the owner. Study people.
Besides it’s much more entertaing and you can use these skills anywhere. When you move to another company you can forget all the information you have learned there. What a waste of time, eh?
It’s just a numbers game – lie. Told by heavy hitters. Because they can do it, they don’t care if they burn tons of people on their way. For most people this is not doable or dublicatable. And boy is it frustrating. Hearing how well they are doing and you are not. We all have met burnt people.
People are not numbers. Or do you want to be a number?
Have you been recruited before? Has your “sponsor” asked you about your dreams, desires, wants? They don’t have the time. They have to recruit more because of the high number of drop-outs because they cannot do the same thing. Recruit, recruit, recruit. Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun to me. And not really the goal of most people. After all, we want to build a business, help people and eventually have a high enough passive income to cover all our expenses – right?
What is your dream if money and time was no object?
“NO”s are a good thing – another lie.
Go get 100 “NO”s and eventually you’ll get a yes. Every “NO” gets you closer to a “YES”.
Oh, I have heard this so many times. Once I was told (or did I read it in some MLM book?) to take a piece of paper and write on it 100 “NO”s. And then start making my phone calls. And cross out every time one of them when I get a “NO”. Doesn’t that sound like they expect to get lots of “NO”s?
I did that. I crossed out half the lists. Had not one “YES” and the phone got heavier and heavier. Once in a while a “YES” would have kept me going. But there is a reason why we get so many “NO”s on the phone.
Running out of names. Having to explain who I was or where we are supposed to know each other. ‘We met 1998 at some Networking Event.’ And having to hear they quit Network marketing because it just doesn’t work. Them wondering who I am and why I call.
Horrible.
“NO” is one of the first and most often heard word as a kid hear and we still hate it as adults.
Talk to everybody about your business – oh boy!
My grandmother is neither at the business nor the products interested.
Talk to everybody within hearing range.
I would walk around my neighborhood pretending I needed to do some grocery shopping and trying to come up with a good line to talk to a stranger and get them into my business – I was told to do that. Talk to people waiting for the bus, in the line at the store, the sales personell.
My inner core is actually very shy even if you wouldn’t think so now if you met me. I’m really shy. It was really really hard to go out with the intention to do what my upline told me to do: talk to everybody. Needless to say I didn’t. I’d get home without having talked to anyone and feeling very low. I’m a failure. In time I would be able to talk to someone but never about the business. I just couldn’t come up with a good line or the right moment. What’s wrong with me? They can do it. Why can’t I?
If I had only known that I was set up.
And should I get the opportunity to talk (at a networking event, or going out to dinner with friends) I would not shut up at all. Nobody told me that I have two ears and only one mouth for a reason. No, I had 3 mouths. Closing my ears and eyes and talk talk talk. When I’d open my eyes the spot across of me was empty. Well, you know what I mean.
Maybe I need to talk more and faster?
The key is to only talk to your target market. I know that now. People who want what you have to offer. You reading this makes you most probably my target market. I’d like to offer you to download the ebook written by Michael Dlouhy. It’s worth a read. And from there you can get plugged in our free training, free audios and free calls. All generic, no products, no companies are mentioned. Finally getting the training and mentoring we all are missing.
Because it takes a team to succeed
Especially if you are new to network marketing you need a team. Guess what. At Mentoring For Free you have a team. Tons of audios to listen to and learn from. 10 live calls every week to plugin to. Ebooks and CDs. All free. And best of all when you start putting to use what you learn and start sponsoring people you just plug them in there, too. You don’t “waste” time training (and how can you, you are new and still learning) and can keep on learning and sponsoring. And build relationship with your new people.
Get a good product or service to sell. THEN focus on helping OTHER people reach their dreams. THAT is your top priority.
I wish you great success on the path to your dreams. Let’s walk alongside for a while.
