Resistance Training
The best approach however is to combine both cardio exercise with strength training so you get the best of both worlds. This is referred to as metabolic resistance training, because it builds muscle and stamina to increase your metabolic rate.
Guidelines from the National Strength and Conditioning Association suggest that there should be at least one rest day but not more than three between working each muscle group. At a minimum, a resistance training session that works the entire body could be completed Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Saturday.
Strength training works best if you work with a professional personal trainer. He will be able to put together a plan based on your body type, current fitness level and goals. Resistance training is one of the most important exercise routines you can do for your self. And as long as you do it right, it’s never too late to get started.
Weight training is primarily an isotonic form of exercise, as the force produced by the muscle to push or pull weighted objects should not change (though in practice the force produced does decrease as muscles fatigue). Any object can be used for weight training, but dumbbells, barbells, and other specialized equipment are normally used because they can be adjusted to specific weights and are easily gripped. Many exercises are not strictly isotonic because the force on the muscle varies as the joint moves through its range of motion. Movements can become easier or harder depending on the angle of muscular force relative to gravity; for example, a standard biceps curl becomes easier as the hand approaches the shoulder as more of the load is taken by the structure of the elbow. Certain machines such as the Nautilus involve special adaptations to keep resistance constant irrespective of the joint angle.
This is a very common weight lifting routine that is used by most sports program to incorporate a weight training component in the exercising for the sport. Most sports as we know will benefit from a number of form of strength exercising. The strength and power working out attained in this weight lifting routine will be useful in the execution of the sports skills during competition. For example, the jumping power attained in weight working out will be useful for a basketball player executing lay-ups and dunks. The One-Three-Five Program is basically allocating Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for body weight working out and the other days for sports skills and tactics training. During body weight exercising days, the athletes will execute a general resistance training routine of bench presses, pull-ups, sit-ups, military presses and squats. These are five general mass building and strength exercising exercises. Each exercise targets a major muscle grouping, thus ensuring that overall strength training is achieved. In this routine, the athletes also perform general sets and repetitions of 4×10.
* Isometric exercises: ( resistance training without weights or equipment ) Very effective when used properly. Examples: Stand parallel to a wall and press your fist against it as hard as you can, ( builds upper arm latoid muscles ) or a good fat burner is to slow jog while flexing your muscles and shadow boxing.
Of course frequency design cannot be complete without taking other elements of training (such as speed and endurance sessions) into account. A resistance training program for a hockey player for example, might be coupled with plyometric training. In this scenario, only two resistance training sessions per week is feasible.
Do you want to know how to triple your results from your resistance training? Why wouldn’t you?
Circuit training with resistance bands is a great way to combine strength training and cardio all at once when you’re short on time. Traditionally, the rest period between exercises in this workout is very little if any, often with rapid movement from exercise to exercise. Choose three exercise that you can do back to back with the bands like a lunge, shoulder press, and dead lift.Execute each exercise for 8-10 reps than move to the next exercise until you complete the entire set.
Another great way to reduce body fat is by resistance training. There are many types of resistance training that are very effective at building muscle (and muscle burns body fat). These programs can be fun and engaging at the same time.
One method for structuring exercise order is power, core ,assistance exercises. So for example, power cleans (which involves the most complex movements) should start the session if they are included. A resistance training session that follows this structure might look as follows:
One program I highly recommend is what I call the spin routine. The routine incorporates all different movement patterns, aerobic and interval training, in addition to resistance training. This type of routine really burns fat. For example: 3 minutes of aerobic training (alter variety and intensity) and 2-3 resistance exercises done in a row with no rest. Repeat the cycle as many times as you wish.
The question that often comes up is this: “Is weight training only for young athletic types?” The answer to that question is not that complicated. Weight or “resistance” training increases muscle mass no matter what your age.
In any weight exercise program, you can use numerous resistance training regimes that can be applied to realize different objectives. Several weigh lifting programs will supplement your specialized sports training. Others will be suitable for bodybuilding and weight lifting. There are others that will be meant for recreation or general fitness and condition. Whatever the reason for a body weight workout, it is important to know there are actually numerous weight lifting regimes out there that could be used. In this article we will look at three exercises for three different purposes.
Also, metabolic resistance training does not involve mindless repetitions similar to aerobic exercises; it;s short but effective. By going from one exercise to another, you will build endurance and strength at the same time. Overall, it;s a wonderful way to get stronger and lose weight. The amount of calories you burn at rest will increase from this training because your metabolic rate will be faster. This is the secret to getting the body you have always wanted.
