How to Crack the Code on Generating Traffic Online
Living in Los Angeles, I’m often confronted with traffic. Doesn’t matter the time of day. You can find traffic anywhere. I try to take the back roads whenever possible. It’s a little easier to navigate. But there are mountains everywhere, and there are not really any back streets that you can take that will get you from one part of the city to the other, AND be free of traffic. At some point, you’re faced with the dreaded choice of braving one of the many expressways. For me, it’s either the 5, 405, 101 or the 10. It can be a miserable experience no matter which one you choose. But, hey, some days you do get lucky. But in general, it is rarely smooth sailing when driving through a high traffic city like Los Angeles.
The Traffic Nightmare Continues Online Too
If you’re in the online marketing business, traffic is a constant issue too. But, unlike living in a major metropolitan city, it seems like you can never get enough. And it can be equally frustrating. You try all the different routes like:
Social Media
PPC
Solo Ads
Syndication
Video Marketing
SEO
You test all the tried and true routes in hopes that one will take you to the coveted position of receiving constant and massive traffic online.
What To Do When Your Stuck in an Online Traffic Jam
First of all, resist the urge to lay on the horn…i.e. start screaming at the top of your lungs. No one can hear you, so just save your energy.
Next, it’s important to keep in mind that getting massive traffic online doesn’t necessarily happen over night. It’s faster with paid advertising, but that’s IF you have a good ad. If you’ve never written ad copy before, what you think is a Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece, may in actuality be ‘bottom of the bird cage’ material. It takes practice.
Which leads me to my next point, we all have strengths and weaknesses. We are not going to be masters at all of these different strategies. Case in point, I am not good at SEO. I thought I was. But after getting stuck in the online traffic jam from hell, it occurred to me that perhaps this is not my forte. I am good at other things though. I have a background in writing and video production, so utilizing those skills will help bring better results.
Play to your strengths! The good news is you don’t need a hundred strategies to generate traffic online. You only need to be GOOD at one. So look at your own skill set and the things that you like to do. Then go for the strategy that will help you to capitalize on that.
So pick an online traffic generating marketing strategy and PERFECT it! Understand, there is going to be some trial and error involved. So be patient. Once you have a strategy that works for you, then look to add another into the mix, and then repeat the process.
While heading down the road to success, we’re bound to run into traffic. The key is to keep on going, because eventually you will reach your destination.
