Lately, I’ve had a lot of people ask me about how to be successful in blogging. They express frustration because they feel like they have been getting any results.
When I ask them how long they have been at it, I get responses that range from one to three weeks.
What?
“Why are you trippin’”? I wonder to myself. “You just got started.”
Here’s the truth…success in blogging, just like in anything else…takes time. Blogging for a few weeks isn’t going to put you in a position to replace your income…just yet.
Think of it as a long term strategy rather than lotto!
The other thing to know is that to make money blogging you have to get eyeballs on your blog.
Lots of eyeballs.
I totally get that in the beginning, people may not have a marketing budget. So I’d like to share a few simple strategies to get free Google traffic and visitors to your blog.
5 Tips for Free Google Traffic
The key to getting visitors to your blog is by promoting and letting people know it’s out there. Just writing and posting it is not enough. These free Google traffic tips will help you get your message to the masses.
1. Determine your target audience and write for them. You want to write content that people want to read. Make it fun, interesting and informative. If people enjoy what you are putting out, the will come back for more.
2. Be consist. I say this all the time because it’s true. Adopt the mindset that you are a business owner who is running a business. You have to show up everyday…whether you feel like it or not. And remember, it takes time to build an audience… a following…so give it 90 days before evaluating your progress.
3. Focus on key words. Key words are the words or phrases people type into the search bars to find information. One of the most important things you can do to get free Google traffic is to select key words and terms that people are searching for. Also, pick key words that have low competition. That will make it easier for your content to rank at the top of search engines. Check out Google Keyword Tool to help in selecting your keywords.
4. Get lots of Backlinks. Now, backlinks are simply other websites that have links to your site. A great way to get backlinks is through social sharing. The more people who like and share your blog, the more backlinks and more free Google traffic you will have. One of my favorite tools for social sharing is Tribepro.
5. Build a list. As they say, the money is in the list. As people visit your blog, add opt-in forms to collect your visitors contact information. If they opt-in, that means that they like you and want to hear more of what you have to say and offer. So build a list and develop a relationship with the people on your list.
