Mastering Your Mindset is the Key to Success
Over the past few weeks, I have had a number of conversations with many different people about what it really takes to be successful in this industry. As I continue down my journey, I have really come to appreciate that in the network marketing industry, more so than in any other, whether or not you achieve success in this business will ultimately come down to your mindset.
Its been said that this business is really personal development in disguise. That is no joke. You can fake it till you make it pretty much anywhere else, but if you don’t get a handle on your mindset in this business…forget about it.
Primarily because for the most part we are business owners…there’s no one to pass the buck to. And no one can change your thoughts and what you believe except you. That’s pretty powerful stuff.
Mastering Your Mindset is a Process
I’ve been involved in network marketing for about 8 months. And I admit, I did not start off with the best frame of mind. I tossed out excuses too. Things like…
..oh, I don’t know anybody… or oh, this strategy doesn’t really feel like my style
Now, there may have been some degree of truth here, but in the end they were still excuses. They were reasons I was giving myself to justify staying in the same place.
And then there is the habit of looking to your sponsor to fix everything.
… Yes, I have been guilty here too…
In this business you have got to take some initiative. Yes, your sponsor is there to help you but they are not going to do everything for you. STEP UP!! If there is something you don’t know how to do…LEARN IT!. The Internet is filled with information. 95% of your questions can be answered with a simple Google search.
Then give yourself some time to learn and implement the tools and training. This is a business not Lotto!
And if you’re reading this and wondering if I am talking about you…the answer is YES!!!
(The pastor of my church used to say that all the time. Always made the congregation laugh, so I’m stealing that line from her.)
If it seems like I’m ranting, it’s really not my intention. I’m just trying to help. And sometimes the best form of help is simple, blunt TRUTH!!
I’m not gonna lie, I still have work to do when it comes to mastering my own “mindset.” But I have made a lot of progress over the past 8 months. And I get it. I get that nothing else will matter unless or until I get a handle on that.
Some Advice On Mastering Your Mindset
Now that I have unloaded that bit of truth, it’s only fair that I offer a few suggestions on how to go about mastering your “mindset.’
-Be aware of what you are thinking and feeling. If you’re constantly saying “I don’t know how,’ or ‘I can’t’ that is not good self talk. Be kind to yourself. If something is brand new to you, give yourself permission to make a few mistakes. It will get easier.
-Dive into personal development materials-Listening to audio, watching videos and reading books of positive information will empower you and help get your mind headed in the right direction.
-Stay focused on your dream or what ever it was that got you started on this path. When you hit those rough patches, remembering where you are going will make a world of difference in helping you in mastering your mindset.
