“Brevity is the Soul of Wit” as once said by Polonius in Hamlet.
This week’s big tech release was Twitter’s video iOS app called “Vine“. Vine enables you to make video clips and share them on Vine or Twitter. It has been dubbed as the “Instagram for videos.”
As with Twitter’s 140 characters, Vine allows only 6 seconds for the video and once it is made, it loops over and over again. Vine co-founder and general manager Dom Hofman wrote that, “Posts on Vine are about abbreviation – the shortened form of something larger plays over and over.”
At first I thought 6 seconds was too short, but then I realized that it actually inspires creativity. In the Vine app, you can look at Editor’s pick and there was a Vine video about a banana that became shorter and shorter and then re-appears when it loops again. It is also easy to use so you can make a video and share it immediately.
Here’s how to make a Vine Video:
1. Download the free app from the App Store. This app is available for iPhone and Ipod touch. To find the correct app, you must search using the term “Vine Twitter.”
2. Open the Vine app and sign in either with Twitter account or your Email.
3. After opening the Twitter Vine app, click on “Done” on the upper right corner.
4. You will be brought to a page with the Editor’s Picks. Click on the movie icon on the upper right corner.
5. It will walk you through the steps. Click “ok”.
6. To start recording, hold your finger on the screen.
7. It will then make some short pauses or if you would like to pause the recording, just lift your finger from the screen.
8. Add a description beside your video. You can share the video by toggling the “check mark or X” button. Then click on “done”!
Here’s an example of a Vine video that I made about “How to handle stress in 3 easy steps.”

Will this be popular and or will it fade away? Only time can tell. For now, companies like Urban outfitters, Gap and PBS have started using it for branding.
If you enjoyed this blog, share the Vine love and forward it to your friends!
