Questioning Authority migh be healthy for you

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Questioning Authority just might be the healthy thing to do, because all humans make mistakes but depending on the size on one’s ego it might be harder to recognize those mistakes. For me I know that questioning authority saved me from years of struggle in network marketing.

I guess you could say I got introduced to Network Marketing the hard way, because you see I was a musician and a fellow musician told me to go to this place to go see a “New Project“. Both of us being musicians I assumed he was talking about a band, so I went and turns out were at this hotel meeting with a bunch of strange people, and my friend tells me I want you to look at a presentation. I said “If they start talking about god or aliens I’m out of here“.

Turns out it was a Network Marketing company, and at first I was angry but as I listened to the presentation I became more and more interested, I ended up joining and did the whole friends and family thing, every person I took to the meetings came out pissed off at me, I have a friend that’s still doesn’t forgive me for taking her to that meeting LOL.

But you see my sponsor told me, and this was what everyone there was doing, that I had to call people but never tell them what it’s about, set a date, never mention the company, or even the words “business” or “money”. We basically ambushed people, and then wondered why they were mad us, I caught on to this but I did it anyway because I figured if it worked for these people it has to work for me, as it turned out I didn’t make any money and all my friends and family where sick of hearing about my wonderful business.

I asked my sponsor what I should do or change, and what he told me was the breaking point that saved me from years of struggle, he said: “Keep calling people, for every 30 people you contact you should get 3 people to join

And I said, fuck that, not at his face though ha ha, I said na, I tried things your way but the truth is I don’t agree with your system so now I’m doing things my way, I started doing meetings in my house, I created a PowerPoint presentation and emailed it to my contacts, and I noticed an immediate change.

People were not angry anymore, they were actually interested, nobody joined and I didn’t make any money ha ha, but I had a breakthrough.

I decided to leave that company and study for some time and venture in to Online Marketing, later that year I joned a online company and made my first sale ever, started producing and making money online just because I didn’t listen to what my sponsor said.

So think about what you’re doing right now, because quiestioning the system your sponsor uses might just be the thing you need in order to have a breakthrough in your business.

In this industry we all have huge egos so if we are doing things the wrong way, it might take something bigger than ourselves to make us realize we are wrong. So take a moment today to question what you’re doing and how well it works for you.
