Spam Comments (and what to do about them)

My blog is definetly findable on Google.

I just found 33 spams. Now I’m checking to see if any of them are legit.

Here are some examples of spammy comments and how to recognize them.

I just want to tell you that I’m newbie to blogging and actually loved your web site. Likely I’m want to bookmark your website . You actually have terrific articles. Thanks a lot for sharing with us your blog.

Sounds good? Nope, spam. Their name is “more help” and they don’t refer to the article at all.
And almost identical comment with a different name „over here“ on another post. „Look at this web-site“, same, a few different words.

WOW! 8! comments that all are more or less the same, maybe they used some kind of software that posts automatically but exchanges words.

• I have several comments that put in a Google address. That can also be a hint that it’s spam.
• A comment about reducing fats and carbs on my Kalatu versus WordPress post? Spam.
• 7 comments from DanielOl, something about help with writing a 5 paragraph essay – and a html link. All on the same blog post.

SPAM!!

All 33 comments are spam! Great,Aksimet has done a good job.

Once found a legit comment in the spam “folder” and simply approved it. So, it can happen. So check your spam folder once in a while 😉

A blogging friend told me, he had found 50 spam comments, „I guess we have to live with it“, was his comment.

I guess we do.

How to delete the Spam Comments

Just click on the box next to Author.

Choose Delete Permanently and click on Apply.

Or just click on Empty Spam.

I know spam is a nuisance but I guess we have to live with it 😉

In my Kalatu blog I have automatically Aksimet installed and so far it has caught all but one spam comment which I simply deleted after I found it. I have tried to install Aksimet on my other blog a few years back and couldn’t get it to work. So, I’m glad we have it hear automatically installed and updated.

Every time you login

If you quickly go to your comments every time you login to your dashboard (which is probably daily, right?) it doesn’t take a lot of time and you keep your comments clean.

Also, you want to check your approved comments if you have the same settings as I have. And if not, well you have to check the Pending comments.

Hope this was helpful. Don’t freak out about your spam comments. They mean your blog is being found in the search engines 😉
