Being persistent is an important trait to have!!!
Staring off with something new is always a difficult thing to do. It does not matter what it is that you want to do. In business for example getting your first sales is the hardest part or starting a new sport that you have never participated in before.
I remember when I started with Martial Arts at the age of 19 years. It was something that was completely different from what I grew up with. I grew up playing rugby; the only time I was doing martial arts was after I have just watch a movie of Bruce Lee. I would run around the house making crazy sounds pretending I was doing kung fu, making all kinds of stupid moves. In any case, when I started out with this new sport, I started out with traditional Japanese Karate only as a hobby. The more I studied in this subject of martial arts, the more I became enthused by it. It slowly became the sport of my choice, and I have not picked up a rugby ball ever since I started with it.
There comes a point where it is not just participating in sports to keep healthy, but in fact it becomes a way of living. The discipline it takes to be a student in this area is great. When I learned to do kicks for example, at first I struggled getting my leg up high enough in order to execute my kicks properly with good technique. After months and years of sticking to that I’ve managed to do better kicks. Now, it is not perfect but it’s a lot better compared to when I started off in the beginning. I enjoy practicing my kicks now, because it has become a pleasure to do them.
Benefits of being persistent
When starting out just stick to what it is you are doing. Find a way to make the whole process enjoyable by keeping your eye on the prize. Eventually you would move up the learning curve and you would suddenly learn at a much faster rate than before. At this point you also get a huge confidence boost, as you are getting the results that you were actually looking for and it is not so painful anymore.
Lance Armstrong once said:
“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. That surrender, even the smallest act of giving up, stays with me. So when I feel like quitting, I ask myself, which would I rather live with?”
At the end of pain is success, go through it. Having that success is a fantastic feeling to have; something has to come from it when you keep on pushing. You will not always be met with resistance. Never lose your focus from the target that you have set for yourself.
The rewards are much greater when being persistent compared
when you give up from your desires.
