Your Headline Could Be At Fault
You probably write great content, but nobody’s taking time out to read your stuff… It might be because of your Headline.
Believe me I know, there have been times when I felt like I poured my heart and soul into a article or blog post but yet I get little to know visits, comments, shares or retweets.
And its not because my content was bad for the simple fact that not many people took time out to even go and read it. So it haves to be something else but what? Its on Facebook, Twitter and a bunch of other social networks but still know clicks, what could it be?
Does Your Headline Catch Your Viewers Attention?
I did some research and read a few articles that caught my attention.
As I’m reading articles and different blog posts from bloggers I respect I notice some of there work got more views, shares and retweets then others.
Even though there other content was really great they didn’t get many clicks to there work. I’m looking at two different blog posts and I’m thinking, this post is actually better then that post but that’s the post that caught my attention.
Okay so now I’m realizing the only reason why I clicked on that post first was because the Headline caught my attention. If it wasn’t for such a compelling Headline I definitely would have over looked that particular blog post.
The Headline Is More Important Then You Think
On an average, 8 out of 10 people will read your Headline, but only 2 out of 10 people will actually go on to read your content…. Now I’m convinced,,, in order for me to even get viewers to click on my content my Headline haves to catch there attention.
And I definitely wasn’t catching my viewers attention.
When you think about it the first part of your content people read is the Headline right? And for some reason a lot of us over look the importance of the Headline because we put most of our concentration into the body of the content.
Lets take Twitter for example, this is were your Headline and my Headline go to battle for clicks to our content. Different headlines and status updates pop up on twitter each second, in order for your Headline to get clicks on Twitter it must stand out.
How To Write A Compelling Headline
A compelling Headline creates curiosity it doesn’t ask for your attention it simply takes your attention.
A good way to make sure your Headline always offers a compelling reward is to use the 4-U approach. Its all about your readers, people like informal information & everybody appreciates learning something they didn’t know.
Your headline must:
- Be USEFUL to the reader,
- Provide them with a sense of URGENCY,
- Convey the idea that the main benefit is somehow UNIQUE
- And Do all of the above in an ULTRA-SPECIFIC way.
Like: How to stop smoking in 30 days … or your money back.
This Headline alone clearly tells the reader exactly what the content is all about not only that, it also filters out readers that aren’t interested in how they can stop smoking in 30 days. But totally caters to readers that are…. This Headline absolutely gets straight to the point.
